I don't like the theme of this thread. What are we saying here, that we doubted him? A man's religeous beliefs are his own and anyone who doubts them is a bigot in their own right.

first of all.... i believe arturs the best keeper we've had since * knows when.

but religion is for churches, chapels, mosques etc.

why does he feel the need to bless himself its not as if he's going over the top against the * frontline were death was almost a certainty.

he's playing a game of football.... and wether he wins loses or draws that game he's gettting more money in a week than i see in a year....... he hardly needs to say a wee prayer that everything goes alright.

    but thats just my opinion.

the reality is.... that we live in a free country and he can do what he wants as long as he's bringing no harm to anyone.

if we were in spain blessing yourself on a football park is so common its just not an issue.
but in the west of scotland its frowned upon by the protestant majority and media.

and all over a sign of the cross.

he should do it the way jim leighton used to do it.
touch the cross bar.... touch your toes
    walk to each post

didnt you ever notice.... jim leighton the pape..... went to johnstones st cuthburts school..... hahahahahahaha. wit a guy

He is asking for help basicly, to have a good game etc, like when we are losing 1-0 with a few mins left plenty of fans will pray for a goal, he does it everygame for a cleansheet and a celtic win:50:

Biggotry is NOT a West of Scotland issue, its an issue for the WHOLE of Scotland.

i dont believe i'd be wrong in saying that in this day and age if that same incident happenned today
    johnny wouldnt have died.
medical science has come on great leaps and bounds since that sad occasion.
give me an instance of a goalkeeper dying in the last 20 years.

i can only think of peter czeck and carlo cudicini getting serious injuries.

    refs overprotect goalies.
surely religion should be kept private.... we all know its just a way of saying giruy.
its also quite sad when you see half of parkhead walking around with their big massive crucifixes and most of them couldnt tell ye what the inside of a chapel looked like.

What does that have to do with it? Would you only pray when you exactly knew it was your final hour? Many footballers bless themselves and it's only an issue in scotland. I bless myself everytime I leave the house, before every game, before every exam and so on.

That's a good sentence although the police won't agree :38:

Artur blesses himself at every goal he plays in. It's not a problem in any game apart from the Rangers game. Who has the problem?

It's the same with Catholic schools. If they weren't there then there would be no problem. If there weren't any Catholics they would have no one to hate. So you see, it's all our fault that they are bigots.

jhimbhoab. You are obviously speaking from your own opinion. You
quite obviously don't believe in * so i don't expect you to understand the mind of a man who does. You refer to the money you make and how you cannot fathom making that amount of money he makes himself. How Does Money have any relation to a mans beliefs?

I love how people get so jealous almost hate filled by the amount of money football players make. How many people come and watch you stack shelves in Lidl's? or decide to tune in on mass just to see you finish the cereal aisle.

Outward signs are not an indication of any persons religious commitment. Pictures of the Pope, making the sign of the cross in public places do not make someone religious. How we actually live our life is the deciding factor on whether or not we are "religious."
It should also be added that such actions are not crimes.
It's not my place, and I would suggest for none of us, to decide whether Artur is religious or not.
I'm more concerned about his goalkeeping abilities and am thankful that he is hopefully getting over his recent wee blips. He has the potential to be one of our all time greats, if he stays around long enough. I hope we secure him on a longer contract and toast his goalkeeping greatness for many years to come.

    Jhimbhoab,

Don't forget Given getting his intestines ripped open!

Modern medecine has improved things but the reasons why keepers are so well protected is still valid.

Petr Cech's injury was caused by Hunt's knee, if it had been his boot the outcome might have been very different (and the fear of this is why he still wearing a helmet long after his injuries have healed).

Given's injury was bad enough but if the studs had ripped through an organ with better blood supply, like his liver, it could have been much worse.

Keepers are the only players involved in boot to body tackles (as opposed to boot to leg tackles) and so they need to be protected, there are worse things than broken legs for them to worry about.
