Here is a list of Jock Stein's first eleven results as Celtic manager. They include an away draw at Dundee and a home draw with Motherwell, incidentally.

Now before anyone gets on their high-horse about comparing one with the other, I am not. I am using Stein's record to demonstrate that even a world class manager will take some time to get the team playing his way and start getting results.

Personally, I’d have sacked him after the Falkirk game and given Sean Fallon a go!!

    Pld - 11
    Won - 4
    Lost - 5
    Drawn - 2

    Airdrieonians 0 - 6 Celtic

    Celtic 0- 1 St Johnstone

    Dundee 3 - 3 Celtic

    Celtic 2 - 4 Hibernian

    Celtic 2 - 2 Motherwell

    Celtic 3 - 0 Motherwell

    Celtic 1 - 0 Third Lanark

    Hibernian 0 - 4 Celtic

    Nottingham Forest 2 - 1 Celtic

    Falkirk 6 - 2 Celtic

    Celtic 1 - 2 Partick Thistle

How do you propose he does that exactly? First final of the season isn't until March next year. :icon_mrgreen:

What he needs to do is stop killing any momentum, any time he gets a bit of steam behind any results he switches the team. It kills any momentum at all.

Deila was brought in by the Board specifically because he was someone who could deliver league-topping results on a shoestring budget and a team full of bargain buys. They were never ever going to spend any money and the plan was that Deila would bring home the silverware and the CL cash despite minimal investment in the squad.

If he was as good as you think he is he'd find a way :fear:

PS: Can we all stop calling him "Ronny" like he's everyone's cuddly pal?

We never referred to MON as "Martin" or WGS as "Gordon" or Lennon as "Neil" FFS.

Cringe every time I read it.

We called Neil, Lenny and Strachan was mostly Wee Strachan.

Ronny just sounds like a nickname, so he gets called Ronny.

How is that spot on for you? The poster you quoted said we should give him to at least November, you want him gone now. At least make up your mind what it is you want.

This is exactly what is annoying large sections of the support, myself included.

In the beginning I was willing to give him a chance to find his strongest squad and suffer the odd bad result if it meant us seeing an exciting attacking team. But unfortunately we're not seeing any signs of that happening and if anything the product on the park is the worst we've seen in several years. Rather than progressing we seem to be going backwards as a club.

I've not lost complete faith that we can still turn things around but the doubts are certainly there. I've seen us get through worse times and can but hope we start to win matches at the very least to give ourselves some kind of belief and confidence. Until that happens we are going to struggle and the pressure on Ronny to deliver is going to escalate.

Ok, so everything that's always at stake at Celtic.

The League - We will win it.

The League cup - Yet to play in it, so will see tomorrow night.

Scottish Cup (or is that not at stake?) - Not played yet. We will see.

Europa League - Very good result away from home in our opening game.

Reputation - Has our reputation been damaged?

Support - I agree that the support isn't happy about not being in the UCL (I am gutted) but we're in the Europa and, let's face it, it's the level our side was at last year. The manager wants to play good football. He also wants to develop players (including our own youth, which Lennon was repeatedly criticised for not doing). These things take time.

Continuity and settled side - Difficult to do when you have multiple injuries/players coming back from injury + a whole host of (much needed) new signings. What would you do?

Being in a strong position for the expected return of Sevco - If the manager is given time and is successful in implementing what he intends, then this will take care of itself. But for that, he needs time. Therefore, this is why I disagree that changing manager would be beneficial and why talking about 'who would replace the manager if he gets the sack' is pointless. Unless, you think he should get the sack. In which case it's a perfectly good argument - but then I think you are wrong.

    HH

What do you want the manager to do at this stage?
