Can you guys please keep us up to date with what the Polish media have to say about the Zurawski saga...just watched the news there. I'm optimistic he'll become a Celtic player soon.

    Cheers

    Turks in pursuit of Zurawski

    Wed 22 Jun, 4:08 PM

Celtic still face strong competition from Turkish outfit Trabzonspor for the signature of Maciej Zurawski, according to the selling club's president. The 28-year-old on Wednesday caught a flight back to Poland following two days of talks with Celtic, which failed to see him conclude a deal with the Hoops.

Celtic have now made an offer to the striker's club, Wisla Krakow, as well as making the player a contract proposal.

But Wisla president Janusz Basalaj warned the Turks' strong interest in the player had not diminished.

He said: "We have received an official offer from Celtic and we are in the middle of negotiations.

"We are thinking about the offer. The Turkish club are still very interested and we already have their offer.

"Now we will wait and see what happens. Sometimes these things take one hour, sometimes some days."

The Poles are believed to want around Ł2.2m for the former Lech Poznan hitman, a figure Trabzonspor and Austria Vienna have already declared they are willing to pay.

Should Celtic have matched that price with their offer then it will be down to the player to decide.

Zurawski certainly gave Hoops fans encouragement that he might return to sign on the dotted line.

He told BBC Scotland: "I'm happy at the way that talks have gone. I'm going back to consult my family, but I expect to be back at Celtic."

Zurawski would be new Celtic manager Gordon Strachan's second signing since succeeding Martin O'Neill at the start of the month, with free agent Mo Camara having signed a two-year deal yesterday.

A Celtic spokesperson said: "Celtic have had encouraging discussions with Maciej Zurawski and his representatives, and both the player and Wisla Krakow have received offers from Celtic. "Clearly, such negotiations do take time, however Celtic are hopeful that a positive conclusion can be reached."

"Gazeta Wyborcza" (the serious one) says Maciej is almost in Celtic. They suggest there must be a slight problem - Wisla requires 3,2m and Celtic gives 2,8m euro but the clubs should meet at 3m easily. The author of this article (in Polish, do not enter :86: ) is certain Maciej will join Celtic soon. He quotes Wisla spokesman who claims they are determined to finish up the case as soon as possible for the club and Maciej's sake. They've had enough of speculations and all the mess in the media.

I'll try to translate the headline of Gazeta Wyborcza:

Maciej Zurawski is "with one leg in" (polish idiom?) Celtic Glasgow. Already nothing will stop Zurawski going to Celtic. The best player of Polish league got to know the height of contract with vice-champion of Scotland . More and more nearer agreement about height of compensation (?) are both clubs.

From different important person in Wisla we heard, that Scotsmen approach to matter "unusually seriously". They proposed 2,8 million euro from the very begining . Turks from Trabzonspor and Austrians from Austria Vienna did not bring even near to this sum (after long negotiations Turks were finished to pay 2,5 million euro). So transfer lacks so little. It is known, that the owner of Wisla SSA Bogusław Cupiał is prone to let captain of Wisla go for 3 million euro.

www.wislakrakow.com - has confirmed everything that was said here before - official offer + talks are suspended.

They also said that: "The next couple of days Maciek will spend in Poznan (note: he is from Poznan, that's where his family is from - so this would confirm the version with talks about the move with his family), but soon he will most probably travel back to Glasgow. In the next couple of days he will give his word to the offer presented by Celtic. He will also meet with Boguslaw Cupial (Note: he is the owner of Wisla - our version - unfortunatelly much poorer :) - of Roman Abramowich. What Cupial says, goes. Nothing in this club happens without his final word. Earlier there were some rumors that Cupial who just came back from the US might try to convince Maciek to stay with Wisla till winter and try one more time to get into the Champions League - Wisla will start from the 3rd qualifying round; On the other hand however I personally can only speculate that Maciek wants to have the owners personal acceptance to the deal with Celtic and these talks are a good sign for Celtic).

So pretty much still no one knows what is going on. I don't know if this was said here, but around a week or so ago, Gazeta Wyborcza (you should already know :) - the biggest Polish newspaper), was claiming an interest in Zurawski from the Italian side Fiorentina. Since then - things were very, very quiet - so maybe it was just a rumor. Apparently Fiorentina was not happy with their striker Fabrizo Miccoli and were looking for his replacement. So guys - if you see any news about Fabrizo Miccoli being dumped by Fiorentina, this might be a bad news for the Bhoys and Zurawski as a signing. Like I said - this might be (and to be honest I personally believe this is the case here) just a rumor that's being spread by some managers to keep Zurawski interested in their services - but I thought you might wanna know.

Trabzonspor surprised everybody and offered 3,5 m for Zurawski and his team mate, Tomasz Klos, Poland intarnational, most experienced (33) defender. Wisla is said not to be keen to lose him. Zurawski refuses to comment on his own future. Oficially he says he does not know yet whether he will sign with Celtic or not. Unofficial sources say he will do this sooner than expected.

    "Rzeczpospolita"

Last winter best friend of Zurawski, Szymkowiak, a playmaker, moved to Trabzonspor and became the revelation of the Turkish league. Scored 9 in spring /which is a lot as for the midfielder and and a newcomer / pushing hated Galatasaray into the third position in the league table.

interia.pl conducted an interview with zurawski at the airport on his arrival. in general, zurawski states that he is happy with his trip and what he was offered by celtic. he also goes on to state that he wants a couple of days to analyze a "life changing decision" instead of rushing into it. he also makes mention of the fact that he was very impressed by celtic park, and by the football club in general. lastly, he states that he will come to a decision in the next 3-4 days.

if you ask me, this sounds fairly positive, as all sources are giving the same story, that the player simply wants to think it over. unless he receives an offer to play in spain (he often mentions that this is his dream league, but there have been no rumours of this for over a year), i fully expect "magic" to sign with the bhoys fairly soon...with the unveiling coming july 1.
