This is what worries me, if we truly only have modest funds in the bank then where is the money?

If we are qualifying for the CL and selling our best assets just to break even, where is the money going?

I thought we budgeted for the EL?

Maybe he's not the financial wonder many make him out to be.

He is simply carrying on the business model of Quinn too.

Funny, the only thing increasing and improving at the club is his wage. :smiley-laughing002:

We haven't been really strong in quite some time. How long is long enough?

I've been ranting about this for ages now, if you bring in a £5m player and pay him £50k p/w of course every player wants to match them, but the flip side to that is, you have a player, say a wanyama/hooper/ki/vvd or any other player on £20k. then you pay these £5-10m players an increase once they sign an extension to there contracts. that's how every club on the planet do it.
not stick to a rigid wage structure. do we honestly think a player like Henrik would have stayed at celtic for so long, and extended his contract if he was held to a strict wage structure and his wages maxxed at £20k p/w ?

    :50: agree.
and as for stockpiling cash, there is no evidence of that in the accounts.

That's a new one. Sacked for not stockpiling cash!
I guess criticism just comes with the job.

This is it, all the clubs accounts are public and money has been spent on players. It seems tho we have bought the wrong players. Is this a scouting problem or is it the managers who have final say on who to sign? How we went from signing Hooper, Commons, Wanyama, Ledley all for less than £4m, yet we sign Boerrigter, Pukki, Balde all for £7m??!

Any add-ons that were performance based for Pukki, Balde and Derk have no chance of being activated after their season, so they probably did cost a lot less than that at least.

Go and have a look at the accounts... they're in the public domain!

If we haven't got a lot of spare cash he should be for squandering it.

£30m in transfer fees over the course of last season and this season, £12m outgoing. £35m extra in Champions League money.

He's said before that Celtic is budgeted to run without Champions League money. It would be gross negligence to spend that without investing in the team.

Or there's the other factor, we need that money to run the club. Couple of seasons without the CL we're down the *.

But its easier to just say there is a "pile" of cash not being spent.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying if it has been spent just to run the club then we are in major, major trouble if we don't get into the Champions League next year.

Devlin is right, if as according to Lawell we budget for EL participation then surely Champions league participation is bonus money. As such 2 consecutive seasons in the CL should have provided us with substantially more money in the bank than 5M as of the last set of accounts.

In addition to the CL money we have brought in more in player sales than ever before at 30M over 2 seasons.

All of this is not budgeted for its extra income. This does beg the question, what exactly are we spending this money on that we do not budget for, according to Lawell.

If we only budget for EL income which is circa 5-7M then where is the extra money being made actually going? I think Lawell is telling us a porkie that we can survive on EL income.

We were given TWO chances to make the Champions League and failed both times, with a £10million sale in between, because we chose not to spend money. Inexcusable and disgusting.

We use NOT making the Champions League as an excuse not to spend money. Yet we just did 2 years in a row and still didn't spend this year. Terrible.

My post wasn't directed at you mate, more the people who have decided that there is indeed a pile of cash sitting about.
It would appear that there may be something in what you think though and that is a worry (if its right).
Maybe you know the answer to this. When people go on about the amount raised in transfer fee's, have we actually received this amount, as my understanding of the transfer system is - we may have agreed £12 million for Vic (for example) but when will the full amount be paid, as its usually in installments ? (Yes I could go and look over the accounts to see but am busy just now). IF this is the case then that obviously has an impact on things.
