Yeah, I mean what does Deila know, right? He's only involved in the game, has a prior relationship with City from his previous club, has actually seen the player (unlike any of us) and actually knew who he was before yesterday (again, unlike any of us).

He's obviously talking nonsense, and this opinion is based on...well, it's based on * all really.

Thing is if he has seen the player ect and in the game to say he is worth 10 million pound when we have just sold our best player for 10 million is just madness. :56:

I have to say I'm a bit miffed to why he would be talking out his * about this.

What he's probably saying is that if, for example, Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal came to City and said "we want to sign Jason Denayer", they would probably be quoted somewhere in the £10 million range.

Is that really so hard to believe? In an era where City have paid Porto over £40 million for Eliaquim Mangala?

Or in a country where someone like Britt Assombalonga moves from a semi-pro club in League 1 for over £5.5 million to Championship side Forest?

£10 million is * all down there these days.

I think he's making the best out of a bad situation. We all know we're in a stage of transition let's be brutal about this we probably lose more players to our league state rather than money. If this is a good player for a season then it's better than gambling on some cheap dumpling.

I think Ronny was making the point that's the kind of money he'd cost us to buy, which isn't surprising for a highly rated youngster at a top club

To be fair, Chris Smalling left Fulham for Man Utd for a very similar fee after playing about 10 or so games for Fulham. He was a similar age also. If Denayer was indeed on the periphery of the Man City first team, the chances are, he might well have featured in some of the EPL teams starting X1 last season. So it's not out of the question that he might well have the quality of a £10m player by South of the border standards.

That's exactly the point he was making.

I am not feeling to comfortable about throwing an 18 year old straight into a champions league qualifier. But I am here to be proven wrong

I am glad we're not sitting on laurels re CB options, to be honest, as VVD aside I think what we had was chronic. Here's hoping this lad is even a 3 million player, let alone 10, because our remaining options (outwith VVD) sure as * aren't as things stand.

I just hope Denayer was signed to partner Van Dijk.

There's such a thing as over-selling though, no? (Jerod Nixon/Ivan Golac springs to mind - one for the older readers!)

We all expect this lad to be really outstanding now.

Also, I assume this means we have no intention of buying the guy at the end of the loan, since Deila has just fixed the price at $10m+

I'm pretty sure PL looked something like this :31: when he heard the £10m quote from Deila.

I am very much behind the Deila experiment; I believe he will do very well at Celtic, but this was not a smart thing to say.

I think PL and Deila are panicked a bit about fans' disgruntlement at the moment.

There was never a chance of the guy signing for us permanently, so it doesn't matter what Deila said.

I think (and I am happy this is the case, to an extent, although the matches themselves were torture) VVD's value has been adversely affected by Legiagate. As such, any offer that comes in (and going by Deila's quotes, that means 0 offers) will be far less than his true worth.

He will be here for another season yet. If the lad Denayer is even half as competent as some make out, then he will be a natural partner.

What then happens to Ambrose is anyone's guess. Does he move up the park to bolster midfield ranks where there is a clear issue at present? perhaps.

I hope you are right about Van Dijk.

The funny thing about Ambrose, his first game for Celtic, albeit against lower league opposition in Raith Rovers, he was outstanding as a holding midfielder. His passing was unbelievable that night, and I genuinely thought we would stick with him in that role. I wouldn't be against him being played there if I'm honest.

Remember the game well. Top tier closed, and at one stage I thought Hooper would get 8 let alone 4. He was excellent, as you rightly say. And I thought to myself "oh, hello - here's a guaranteed CM for us."

Then he never * played there after that!

Still pains me saying "Hooper scored 4."

    Christ we miss that guy.

That we can't compete for a Belgian youth international who will most likely be knocking on the first team door of Manchester City?

    I don't think it's all that depressing.
