So if he comes here, helps shore up the defence, and helps gives us a right good season - possibly having an influence on the kids in the academy while he's here - you'd deem none of that worthwhile, simply because he'd (probably) be leaving at the end of the season?

you know we might be onto something here

can we just sign all the top young talent in the world that the english premiership clubs dont want to play, on loan for a year ???

i mean they have to be better than playing against average experienced guys right ?

I for one have always thought we didn't make enough use of the loan market especially after the squad quotas came in down south and I accept its best to get these guys on transfers but jesus if he is half as good as the reports say he is then he will help while hes here and opens the door to future loans and maybe first refusals on players. All the big clubs have players who are good but maybe down to squad size cant play like real Madrid who are on now who wouldn't take sami khedira on loan for example. Loans and good ones take the pressure off and to be honest id rather that than take a chance on a player just because we need one for a certain position

The only way we will get young talented guys like this to our club is via loans ... i have no idea how much City paid for him but he is out of our league if the write ups are anything to go by.

even the young scottish talent seems to be out of our league .. the two dundee Utd players were there for the taking... Our best hope of attracting young talent is by giving them game time and allowing them to sign or move to bigger things

Celtic may be able to compete with some clubs but our league cannot ... we should be happy some players still see value in being at Celtic...

I live in the hope that one day our club will play in a different league -- wherever that may be. Until then, lets take a chance on these young guys willing to come here and help our club

I think we've been lucky that previous management have been able to talk up the club and sell it to players. Can deila do the same? Let's hope so

Hi all. Man City fan here in peace.

Just wanted to nip an and see how the reaction is here to Denayer signing. How is your CB situation currently? Is it an area that you really need to improve? I guess I'm trying to figure whether Denayer will play alot or whether he's been brought in as cover only.

I for one am made up that we've been able to loan him to a big club with European football. I expected a loan for him this season but thought it may be a a championship club. I'm looking forward to keeping an eye on his performances this season so may pop by occasionally to get some opinion off you guys if you don't mind?

As for Denayer himself, he's a great prospect who has done really well in our EDS (reserves) team. I watched him live about half a dozen times last season and he looks a real talent the way Wright-Phillips & Sturridge did. Now we just need to see whether he can make the (massive) step up from reserve level football to first team football. From our point of view this loan is a perfect chance for us to see and if he does step up (as I'm confident he will) you'll get the use of a really classy looking CB.

    Thanks for your time.

I could be wrong but he's probably a replacement for Virgil Van Dijk. Don't think he'd start if VVD didn't go.

He has been brought in to start by the look of it. Looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Pretty dreadful, like all other areas of the team! Crazy stuff when a 19 year old who I don't think has ever played a 1st team game at any level can waltz straight into our first XI (as i'm sure he will do).

Could you also loan us 3 strikers, a left back, a midfielder and a goalie please? I know Joe Hart isn't exactly Forster, but he would do I think :86:

I think our back 4 is probably our strongest area. I'm not fussed about signing any defenders.

A few months ago I would have said the same but Efe's confidence is shot to *, Lustig seems to still be on holiday, Izzy hasn't been on top form since 2011 and Van Dijk (our one bright spark) may well be sold before September.

Plus we have no good youth defenders (Fraser looked promising but got injured and disappeared like most our youths do) and had literally NO back up CBs at all until this Denayer kid came. We've got 2 good RBs (at least until Legia) but have needed left back cover for over 2 years now.

I think attack is a more pressing concern but i'm hardly happy with our defence.

If he's been brought in as a first team player, he'll hopefully play alongside Virgil Van Dijk, a classy centre-half and probably the best player at the club (he'll probably be playing against you this season or next :smiley-laughing002:), Citizen. Denayer sounds very similar in style.

Our centre-halves are dominant domestically, especially Virgil Van Dijk, but Efe Ambrose is partial to the odd moment of genius or madness. :smiley-laughing002:

We could definitely do with strengthening that area for European football. The fact that there's no option to but tells me that Deila intends to bring him in for that reason.

RD: "He could compete for a starting place immediately."

I'd imagine he'll be on the bench at first but if he's good enough he'll force his way in.

Efe and Virgil aside, we have no centre-halves I'd be comfortable starting in Europe. Our right-back is outstanding and can cover there but we'd obviously prefer to play him in his natural position. Charlie Mulgrew can play anywhere really and put in a decent shift but he won't be a direct rival to Denayer, nor will Lustig. He should get a fair amount of game time if he's good enough.

I think it's mad to suggest that a 19 year old loanee has been brought in just to waltz straight into starting XI, let alone replace VVD.
