To be fair to them, Lawwell should have had his Playstation 4 out long before now.

At least now we can go to Parkhead, play the playstations in the LL Lower and start a save where we actually buy players.

Maybe they'll stream the link from the PSs and Xboxs onto the big screens so we can watch kids playing instead of our * match vs St Mirren.

I believe that we can attract a decent level of player to our club but we choose not to (or rather the broader choose not to) because we are in a tough time at the moment, it can't be easy if you are the board. obviously we, as fans, want to buy exciting, talented footballers to bring to paradise so that we can compete in Europe (because let's face it we shouldn't need to spend money to win anything within Scotland) and I believe that the club as a whole want that too (including the board) but we probably can't afford to fork out a couple million on say 4/5 players or so, and that is the amount that we would need to actually do some damage in Europe, as I don't see there being a player out there for a couple million that would come and be able to do that alone. so to answer your question we can but we don't is what I would say

Could it be possible for us to spend 'bigger' on 'better youth talent' and then sell them for 'bigger' amounts of money - sort of similar to what Benfica is doing, Tottenham when they eventually sell on Eriksen? Everyone goes on about how well our academy is doing, but if you compare it to Southampton, German teams or even Dundee Utd it's not up to much is it? We're probably wasting more money on our academy than anything else. I also think letting Watt leave was a ridiculous decision... that Belgian league is better than our own and he did what counts for a much lesser team.

We done well with Wanyama and co by selling on for large profits. But can you see that happening with our most recent signings? (when Forster and VVD leave, where will be in terms of 'talent'?) I still think Pukki has a lot to give but I'm not sure how much of a chance he will be given.

We are the best team in Scotland. We should be producing Scotlands best young players but we do not.

There is something far wrong with our youth setup when there are lesser teams in this country producing better and attracting interest from a higher level than we get.

Scottish youth getting a look in at Celtic. We don't do enough.

To your question regarding Benfica. No we cannot emulate their setup. Look at the Benfica squad, 50% are from South America. We are restricted from bringing in the amount of SA's compared to them.

We scout our talent from Scandinavia, Poland, Hungary and Isreal. Countries that are miles apart from South America's, in everyway :D

Ajax struggle to attract players too, pretty sure this season they wanted someone from the Bundesliga cant mind who it was but he basically laughed it off saying he wouldnt step down from the Bundesliga to go back to the Dutch League.

Think they then ended up with a 20 year old on loan.

Our only selling point is being able to point to examples like Wanyama, Hooper and Ledley who came here and used it us as a stepping stone to the EPL, getting a few medals and to play in the CL on the way. The players we can attract are good young players who want the next step in their careers but havn't been noticed or maybe arn't quite ready for the better teams in the EPL. They ise us to get noticed. It's a * fact but it is what's happening. There are obviously exceptions like Izzy and Lustig but for the most part I think that's the way it is

Am I the only one who thinks we should buy British Isles (British & ROI) players from the SPFL? What I mean are players familiar with the Scottish league who wouldn’t find the idea of playing for Celtic that foreign to them? We should have signed McCarthy and McArthur from Hamilton, Pawlett from Aberdeen GMS and Johnny Russell from Dundee United. These guys would be less likely to leave in one or two years. <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Some of these players I think would become so good that they would move on in a few years for big money like the two players from Hamilton. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
If we sign players like this at a young age, they don’t have to play in the first team straight away. It took a 20 year old Wanyama 6 months to become a first choice in the team. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Take Peter Pawlett as an example. Is this the type of player, who like McGeady could be sold for £10m or even £5m. I don’t think so. I am not saying he is not a good player, but unless an EPL club comes in for him, he is the type of player that would choose to stay at Celtic over going to an English Championship club.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Not everyone will work out, though I think if Strachan played 4-2-3-1, Riordon could have scored 30 goals a season from one of the wide positions, just like at Hibs. Look at Mulgrew, stared off his second spell as a back up left back, now I consider him Celtics best midfielder.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
When advocating signing foreigners, players at the same level as the ones I have mentioned above will be more likely to move on than players signed from SPFL clubs. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Can I also ask why are people advocating we spend money we don’t have?<o:p></o:p>

We buy young players with potential if any good we feed them to average EPL sides.. who if any good feed onto top EPL teams..Which will happen with FF...

EPL has gotten so big and lucrative that players will inevitably use us as a stepping stone as soon as we come to terms with this the easier it will become.. if anything we should have an advantage over other European clubs..:shamrock:

    Hidden gems or mediocrity really.

Even if we spent more than we do, we'd still be a long way off being able to sign proven players. I mean when you see guys like Steven * Fletcher go to Sunderland for £14 million it almost becomes an impossible task.

Exactly, the true English League at the moment.

The English Premier is nothing but a World League in disguise with the percentage of English players at little over 30%.

Whereas the Championship, UK player account for over 70% of minutes played.

If we're to look for the best talent in the UK it has to come from one of the most competitive leagues in the world. The Championship.

For most of those players who wont end up in the Premiership through promotion, we can offer development through winning trophies with experience in Europe. The chance to play in a great stadium and be idolized by one of the best supports in the world.

That alone should be an attraction and if it isn't then the knowledge if they do well, they know they will be scouted by Premiership clubs.

Prices have started to become inflated in the C'ship now though, that's the problem

11 million for McCormack and 8 for Rhodes is ridiculous

I'd say any player worthwhile in that league would cost at least 5/6 million
