    Are you sure?

I remember a rather long conversation where I said I believed that the management team would put together a list of targets and that Lawwell would check the financials of each of them (fees, signing on money, wages etc) and that he would make the final call?

I really don't think I would have ever said that Lawwell doesn't make the final call when it comes to who we sign. There's no way he chooses the actual players, he's not a football man.

I do believe that Lennon probably had more say over signings than Deila does though. I believe the club know exactly what kind of manager they were looking for after Lennon left.

It's no coincidence that it was a loan move though..

He said there would be signings till after the qualifiers as he wants the right buys yet spoke about the need for not 1 but 2 wingers..
Surely if ronny already had this guy then he knows exactly what he's getting? Why the then need to loan to.buy? We've.just sold a player for over a mill, this.Norwegian would probably cost quarter half that price?
It smacks of penny pinching all over on this one, pl opting to prefer a loan over.ronnys wishes, I'm sure he's been on to him about departments and getting one or two in early to.help us qualify..

No, I don't think you're making it up, as I do remember having a debate with someone on the matter, but I think you're slightly off with what my opinion was.

    Anyway...

Lawell will be. All clubs are these days.

The manager position is little more than a coach these days.

I don't know why everyone is getting so uptight because we have him on loan for 6 months.
We have done this in the past and its worked out great and we have also gone out and bought players and they have worked out *.
Getting to look at the guy for 6 months with no risk is great business IMO.
Ronny might think this guy could do well for us but lets be honest he wouldn't be the first good player to fail somewhere so reduce the risk and take him on loan.
I don't see why this has to be a penny pinching bad move by anyone,i would rather do this than run out and end up with bangbang or balde all over again.

But why would ronny need to look at him? He played under him for a year only a couple year ago..
I've.no doubt this is a ronny signing by the way(all won't be though), so why not tell pl you know the guy inside out and to.sign.him outright on a 2 year deal say?

I don't know, actually i do know what the problem is here..
500 grand top whack it would take to get this guy, under half of watts transfer that hasn't even left our account..

Ridiculously tight, this from someone who has never been and is not a lawwell hater ..

The teams offering daft money call the shots. Scottush clubs have been selling clubs for sometime now unfortunately and who are we to deny big bucks for players when we could win the spfl with cheaper replacements.

I don't really understand why this gets regurgitated all the time. It seems clear to me and I'm sure it has been spelled out in interviews before.

    1. Deila will identify a position that needs strengthening.
    2. John Park and his team will show Deila a list of candidates for that position.
    3. Deila will take the recommendations of the scouting team and prioritise a few targets.
    4. Lawwell will then approach clubs about availability and do the negotiating. I assume he will have input from the scouting team as to the players current value and possible future value.

Don't see it being much more complex than that. In the end Lawwell, with input from Deila & Park, will decide if the signing constitutes value. However I firmly believe that Deila (and Lennon before him) picks players from information provided. I don't think Lawwell just signs a guy up and forces him on the manager as is often suggested.

Peter Houston said when he left the scouts go out and look at the players and if there's anything there Celtic have a team of video analysis guys that put the footage together for the manager.

Infact on Houston's last day he said Ronny was going through videos all day of potential targets that were recommended. Anybody who actually thinks Lawell picks that players he wants is a grade a gammon tickler.

But we don't know for sure how much he will cost uf if we go ahead and buy....the epl is * nuts.
What if they want 2/3 million for him is the loan before we buy still such a bad idea.
He did play for ronny for a year but its a few years ago and player can change in that time.
Maybe ronny is unsure if he will fit into the team or even handle the splfplf not every one cuts it in our team.
This to me says nothing other than our manager and board reducing the risks while getting a look at a player.
Who knows maybe keeping the money for that late late messi bid.:icon_mrgreen:

Was Lennon not desperate to sign Baba Diawara but Lawwell said he was too expensive and offered him Balde instead.

    Hahaha yes! 100% this. :56:

I couldn't remember which interview but now that you've said it, the interview with Houston gave a really in-depth look into how our system works.

I'm pretty sure that there was about two seasons between being linked with Diawara and signing Balde. They're both just black and gangly.

As an aside, Diawara seems to have disappeared.

We were linked with Bangura at the same time as Diawara and opted for Bangura.
