Must admit I really thought he must have had a job lined up...

The consensus in England is that it's easy to manage Celtic so maybe he's not been offered any decent jobs so far..

I think Lenny might well have had enough of the city and the hatred he must have faced every day..

I guess we'll all find out in his book... I'm guessing it might be a combination of the city, the selling of players he brought in, the lack of investment after those sales, the boredom of another easy league campaign and the inevitability of a poor European impact..

    Celtic legend forever though..:shamrock:

He reached his glass ceiling and decided to just get out of the goldfish bowl, to continue using glass metaphors.

I don’t think this club can go further in Europe full stop. If Lennon did say something like that he is very foolish. To qualify we should be favourites every season. We almost blew it against a decent opponent in Karagandy last season, when everyone says they were a joke for the crime of being from Kazakhstan; In fact there only crime is that they were an unknown. <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
After we reach the group stages the game should be up. It should be like Mexico reaching the last 16 of the World Cup. Good enough to get there but no farther. Two seasons ago with a £33m wage bill we were fortunate to be drawn against Moscow and Benfica (both approx £60m wage bills) in that it gave us a shot in getting 2nd place. We did well to get there but when up against a Juventus side (£90m wage bill), whatever bad taste that was left in the mouth we were brushed aside. When, however, I sat down to watch the next round of that particular competition Bayern vs. Juventus, I expected to see an even match. What I saw was an even bigger mismatch than Juventus 5-0 aggregate win over Celtic, this time in reverse (Bayern wage bill approx £160m). UEFA have made it so that the biggest and medium ranked clubs from big countries stay in the competition for as long as possible to maximise TV audiences, which is the driver of all UEFA turnover. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
Last season were not so fortunate, drawn against the best teams in pots 1, 2 & 3. We did well to finish with 1 win and 5 defeats when you consider Ajax had chance after chance at CP and missed the lot. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
To sum up, should expect to get to CL group stages say 3 out of every 4 seasons that we win the league, but anything other than rock bottom in the group stages would be a massive bonus.

The economics of the game have turned against us. Does anyone have any thoughts about how they might be turned in our favour?

He left because of the boards mentality which is to sell the best and then cut the transfer budget further. Ronny seems to be a man who will agree with the boards sales tactics and won't be too bothered about the transfer budget from what i've read.

May I suggest that is why he was the ideal man for the board and the main reason he has the position.

With hindsight it was probably naive of us to expect the likes of Moyes or McKay on the current budget.

Ronny is something very different and let's hope he takes his chance with open arms.

I always felt lennon would walk this summer as I felt he had enough of the treatment of his family and didn't want to put them through the hatred sevco would bring but at the same time if he left it next season there fans would claim he was running scared of them.

You do realise the same people that have abused him for years still lived in the same city as him?

Just because they weren't in our league any more doesn't mean the same people that hated him didn't still hate him, probably even more actually than they did before considering everything that happened.

No way was he running from those mutants.

I think this, as I feel that once sevco are playing at the same level of Scottish football as celtic the level of hatred and abuse will escalate as a large section of the huns I know are still very bitter. and I don't think lennon will want to put his family through that any more than they already have.

i thought there were many times last season , watching lennon in the dugout he appeared to be miles away, maybe he had a lot of stuff on his mind or maybe i just imagined it ,but it appeared to me that he had lost the enthusiasm for the job and it wouldnt have taken much for him to pack it in

Think he was told the transfer budget is zero.

Why bother making the Champions League every year in regards to the transfer budget? It doesn't increase either way.

Not being manager of celtic will in no way reduce the way those across the city or hearts or aberdeen fans for that matter treat lennon.
The only way he will get some peace is to leave scotland and leave the huns behind.
Lennon knew he could take the team no further and maybe got a little bored with life and it wont be to long before someone gives him his next job.
It might not be where he wants but i can see him managing in the lower english leagues for a year or two before a lower to mid epl team gives him what he wants.

He would the 4th guy most PL clubs will look at this season behind Moyes, Clarke, Sherwood some might even say 5th choice if you include Chris Hougton

Maybe he got sick of explaining to his Kids and Partners why they needed body guards everyday to go shopping, eat out, park etc etc. Everything anyone else in Scotland can take for Granted.
There is not a football Manager on earth that has had to put up with the * that guy has. Everyone has a shelf life for getting grief and NL surpassed more than what any other human being should have, and what most of us would have.

All becasue he was passionate about his club. Would McCoist, Brown or any other horrible * from across the city have been afforded that treatment or embarrassed by the leniency shown by the relevant authorities to those who did assault, abuse or attack a guy just for being an Irish Catholic football Manager of Celtic??

I think not. He lasted unbelievably well under those conditions and respect to him for that and the job he done while he was here under those constraints.
Maybe it was time to consider what his sons would have to go through if he stayed. FFS The Royals dont have that type of security when they come up here!!!!!

    Hail Hail NL.:celt_2:
