Last night was his 26th European tie. How long do you give?

He took responsibility as well though, he was bang on right though players hid away during the match.

We obviously need to do more defensive work on the training ground and less possession work for the backline, it's fine for domestic football but for Europe we need to be solid at the back first and foremost.

I think so as well but his position was made untenable by the boss

Unreal how many people are * the bed about Ronny again, he needs time and a bit more investment from the board. He's a step up from Lennon. Sure Lennon done well but with a better squad, he had a lot more faults than Ronny does.

Put it this way lads, it won't be such an issue if Maribor or Malmo were decent sides (and lets not talk about Legia). But they aren't good teams. Malmo's most expensive player was Adu and he cost 350k. They basically operate on the same financial level as Aberdeen and yet they battered us last night. They have players like Arnasson and Berget who were also runs in the SPL. Let's not beat about the bush, last night was nothing short of an absolute embarrassment...again.

He obviously felt he could take us no further.

It was a shocking pathetic performance, in big nights like that it doesn't come down to quality but how much the team wants it. We've beaten teams 10x and more our financial backing, that's football.

Yeah. Probably not a whole lot longer when you look at it like that.

Obviously you give him this year's Europa League campaign and then next year's Champions League qualifiers. If we look ordinary in the Europa League again(which we did for the most part last season) and then we get dumped out in the Champions League qualifiers again next season then his position looks decidedly shaky. Be difficult to sack a manager after Champions League qualifiers though as our domestic season has just started by that point. If the board were going to make a move you'd imagine they'd do it before Champions League qualifiers.

He couldn't. Getting past the group stages of the CL is an over achievement for us at the moment

I agree last night was awful but it is a result of years of underinvestment. Constantly selling your best players may provide cash injection but does not allow teams to develop to the next level. There are too many average players and deadwood. I would gut the team and search for top top young talent that aren't cherry picked by epl teams.

I wouldn't say over achievement that was a pretty good team could of gone further with a bit of backing and being allowed to keep his team to develop a bit more

There it is. Spot on mate. We are now a Europa League level team, and therefore are competing in said competition. Last night is the first time I've just accepted we aren't good enough to play in the CL.

So pessimistic it's beyond belief, it's a small step back.
I mean if you look at the likes of Dortmund, sold some of their best players and had a disastrous season last year, can happen to any team. We've only had 1 very bad game this qualifying, compare it to seasons before in Europe, it's a trend for Celtic. Nothing new.

Ronny is a step up from Lenny in my opinion I rate him highly even after a horror show last night. I would have plated Efe and Izzy and I would have gone for the killer goal early doors. It was unfortunate to have such a poor performance on such an important night though.

I think whats not helping us is Malmo were a 3rd through their season and more match fit than us.

We need to move to summer football.

We should be good enough to qualify. We are bigger and richer than Malmo, Zagreb and Tel Aviv. We should not plan to operate a step below teams like them.
