Attacks on people are very very rare, and are usually in defence. If a wolf was attacking a village, then understandably it should be shot if posing a threat.

However, setting out to kill wolves as some sort of preemptive strike is not acceptable, and neither is hunting them for fun. They play an important role in nature.

Attacks on people are not quite rare.Over the last 3-4 years at least 5 people were killed by wolves. We have ''kangal'' dogs that are quite large and strong but just like many dogs, most of them run away from wolves. Most kangals have a ''spiked collars'' around their necks.Lots of them in America now.

Yes.We have to cull deer in this country as there is no natural predator now.
Deer are almost out of control which is sad as the whole idea of culling is an odious one.

Every time we interfere with nature it comes back to haunt us.Have a quick look at how almost wiping out the vulture population of India has affected the human population.

Our RSPB manual says that you don't get Cormorants this far north. It might be out of date, but I see them regularly on the banks of the River Clyde. Sometimes migration, and birds passing through, * things up. The area a bird inhabits changes all the time. Through out my time birding, I've seen all sorts when I'm not supposed to, for example, a Black Tern and a Ring-Billed Gull at Hogganfield Loch, a Red Breasted Goose at Loch Leven, and I heard of a Ring- Necked Parakeet in Glasgow, so keep your RSPB manual handy but it's not gospel.

I used to fear them but now I'm like oh a bear and move on. Its hard to explain but when you live with them you learn to live with them and just become accustomed to them.
