Gary Hooper was a lovely finisher. If he ever got the ball on his right foot in the penalty area, I'd back him to stick it in the net. But I'd say exactly the same of Griffiths on his left. Griffiths can score a wider variety of goals, and is quicker than Hooper, but Hooper's all-round game is/was stronger. Both quite different strikers.

Hooper can't do it now. Have you not watch him for Norwich? Rotten.

Griffiths is vastly overrated on this forum. I think some people like his personality and the idea of him, and refuse to see his many weaknesses.

I'd convinced myself for the last few months that he was better than I'd give him credit for, but he just isn't. We deserve better.

I'd imagine you haven't seen much of him either, given the fact he is struggling to get a game. Still doesn't mean he wasn't a top player for us though does it.

I just like his goals - I find them very convincing for some reason

    This.

Sounds stupid because strikers are there to score goals, but other than scoring Griffiths has very little ability. And in a one striker formation, they need to be a good all round player.

I'd say he is under rated by most. Banging goals in for fun and people want a benchwarmer to come up and replace him.

Not vastly overrated at all. I think most would accept that his all-round game is lacking, but he is a proper goalscorer. Leigh Griffiths was not the problem in the qualifiers.

    Who says replace Griffths btw?

Have two quality players fighting it out for the one position, rather than it being a choice between Griffiths or Scepovic.

    And?

If you gave Hooper and Griffiths the exact same chances in the exact same games I think Hooper would finish them more often.

Would be interesting to see shot:goal ratios which would explain it better than goals:games.

    I'm talking about finishing/composure.

Griffiths does seem to miss alot of easy chances which I think Hooper would have put away easily.

A haven't seen much of him lately, because he rarely plays now. His performances previous to playing were stinking. That's why he now has his * firmly planted to the Norwich bench:smiley-laughing002:

Griffiths has made 66 apps in all competitions for us, scoring 35 goals. That is a goal every 1.88 games. Hooper played 138 times, scoring 82 goals, a goal every 1.68 games. So Hooper actually had a better scoring record as well, and over a longer period of time.

    Really???

So a high cross into the box, Hooper is there with an opposition CB ready to challenge for the ball.

    Same situation for Griffiths...

You'd back Hooper more so with a higher percentage of winning the battle and sticking the header in the net? :smiley-laughing002:

Hooper can't header, Thumb can, plus he has a great leap.

    another situation...

Both players have the ball just inside and at the corner of the 18 yard box ready to pull the trigger.

You'd back Hooper smashing it in to the net before Griffiths?:smiley-laughing002:

I know who my money would be on

Hooper was awesome but played in a better team and a better formation suited to his game.....griffiths has been afforded none of those luxuries!! He's doing what he gets paid to do week in week out yet still getting slaughtered for it! Sometimes you just need a player to score goals and that's all they are required to do! In no way is this a comparison but inzaghi was a terrible all round footballer but scored the goals his team needed even thought he missed far more than he scored.

Why compare Hooper and Griffiths? We should be comparing Hooper to Scepovic and Ciftci.

When you do that it becomes a no-brainer.

    According to ESPN:

    Griffiths - 143 shots, 34 goals
    Hooper - 123 shots, 85 goals

Both based on their Celtic careers.

Honestly, a had you down as a smart poster as well:smiley-laughing002: Not to say your dumb or anything but * me do you forget Griffiths played out wide? Didn't start many either?

And on top of that, why only take there stats at Celtic. Does there goal to game percentage in the majority of there careers not count?:smiley-laughing002:

Overall career stats point to Griffiths as having the better goals to game ratio:party22:
