Kris Commons is a clever player and an astute student of the game, it wouldn't surprise me to see him go for his coaching badges in the near future, if hasn't already started them. He is in the best physical shape I have ever seen him. He undoubtedly still has something to offer in the game, and as has been said, he has demonstrated his adaptability by adding tracking back to his game and pressing, just like we are seeing Forrest now do, that all comes down to personal motivation, fitness and stamina levels, and a tacit willingness to conform to the dictates and thinking of the management.

The question is does Kris still retain the same belief, hunger, determination, and passion to be an active and constructive part of this team again, and can he convince Rodgers that he can be an asset to him in the way forward. We all know Kris's qualities, he will guarantee you goals, he is a dead ball and penalty kick expert, he is a great thinker of the game.

I would like to think that Commons would see out the remainder of his contract with us before retiring or going into coaching, and remain an integral cog in the squad who still has an important role to play in the team, whenever called upon, and this particular season promises to be very demanding and challenging.

Common's experience, smarts and know how could be a very useful card for Brendan to have up his sleeve, if the going gets tough.

I thought Forrest's time was up and Brown & Lustig looked * but Rodgers has revitalised all of them, I have no reason to think he can't do the same for Commons, who on form is arguably our best player, certainly in terms of what he produces.

It's up to Commons though, does he want to accept a continued bit part role. I imagine Lenny will be trying to take him to Hibs plus i'm sure Championship teams would still want him.

Kris Commons is 33 at the end of this month, that's why.

If Rodgers plays 4-3-3 then the front 3 positions will have Griffiths, Dembele, Roberts, Sinclair, Forrest and Ciftci all preferred over Commons. If we play a formation with a number 10 Rogic will be first choice and I can see Brendan putting McGregor or Armstrong there before he puts Commons there.

I can't see it being a priority for Brendan to give a 33 year old forward many opportunities.

At 33 he's never going to be integral to the way we play going forward under Rodgers, but he is clearly an asset. You just need to look at the goals we scored in Europe last season and how many of them Commons was involved in to see that. For me it can't do any harm to have him around the squad.

I've thought for a while that a lot of Celtic fans (definitely on here) seem to be overly keen on moving older players on and I've never really understood it (Brown, Lustig, Forrest, Commons, Mulgrew, Izzy, Stokes etc) and by older I don't necessarily mean age wise, just that they've been at the club for longer than others. All these players have been there and done it for Celtic which is invaluable in a squad under a new management team.

Personally I wouldn't give a * if he was 43, if he can grab 15-20 goals a season which Commons is well capable of he should be miles ahead of Armstrong, McGregor and Ciftci in the pecking order.

It's a healthy debate over whether Commons could still contribute under Rodgers. But saying that he should play bc he's better than Armstrong doesn't make sense to me. They're completely different players who serve completely different roles. Armstrong can't get goals like Commons and he's nowhere near as skilled/clever, but Commons isn't nearly as athletic and can't press like Armstrong, who contributes a lot more on the defensive side. Apples and oranges.

Commons brings a lot to a team, but I think his penchant for shooting from distance at every opportunity hurts the flow of the game. It seems like, 9 times out of 10, he prefers to shoot rather than try to play someone in. I like that selfishness from a number 9 who is taking shots from inside the box, but not from a creative midfielder who is constantly firing away from 30 yards. Compare him to Rogic, who is always trying to slice open a defense, and only has a go from distance on occasion. I'd keep him as a backup/supersub, but I'm not sure he wants to play that roll at this point in his career.

Sadly Common's doesn't have the pace for Rodgers 10 outfield players to play Rodgers pressing game. But off the bench for last 20 minutes he could still offer something. ?

So we should just play * like Armstrong because he's quicker?

Sooner he leaves the better, so people can stop talking about him, he's not good enough to play in this team and he's an * to boot.

Commons should be miles in front of Armstrong he would offer us much more, a think Rodgers has been told before he arrived of stokes and commons maybe causing unrest, was strange that we let stokes * off for free when we could a got cash if we opted to activate the clause and he would have been contracted for another year.

But I couldn't care either way I think the manager isn't daft by any means and if commons doesn't fit into his plans so be it, av always been a fan of commons personally and a think he's been amazing for us but a can't see him playing another game for us.

Think this team has now passed him by.....didnt even think he would get games under ronny so why we gave hom e new contract gid only knows...barring injuries in the team he will quickly become the forgotten man.....loan deal would be best for both parties.

Aye, no offence to Ronny but I can see how you'd feel more motivated by BR than by him. Still, if he made a deliberate non-attempt to keep fit under Deila that's inexcusable imo.
