The most embarrassing thing about the Celtic support is the way they sing Amhrán na bhFiann. Especially the '* bless the pope' bit. It's terrible. Irish Celtic fans must cringe like * at it.

I take more pride in the Falkirk silence being ruined than it. It's that bad. :smiley-laughing002:

Also the way with some songs we just sing the chorus over and over and over again for about 20 minutes. If we can sing the whole of ROH, we can sing the whole of Fields of Athenry for example.

Spot on! Singing the chorus over and over is boring and stupid as *. :50:

It's not as even though the verses are hard to sing. :56:

I'm too tired to debate in depth, especially with regards to religion.

However is there empirical evidence proving that the Catholic church is the leading charitable organisation/Institute?

I get tired when religious folk argue from a purely theological level. You can't win when you are debating in if's, but's, maybe's, myths and intangibles.

Amhrán na bhFiann was written in English.

I do agree GBTP is cringey though.

Christ counselled the rich prince in the evangelical perfections, yes. But there is a distinction to be made between precept and counsel. You want the poor of the Church? The Franciscan friars, the Dominicans, the Servites, the Poor Claires, etc. These are all men and women that have adopted the evangelical counsels. But Christ did not order it as a precept or a prerequisite for Heaven.

Furthermore it has to be stated that there is a difference between personal wealth and the wealth of the Church. The Church, as the Bride of Christ, our churches and chapels, as the literal homes of our Eucharistic Lord, deserve all of the human respect and wealth that we can offer. * Himself ordered that the Ark of the Covenant be made of gold and highly ornate. It is right and it is just that we offer first and foremost to * our very best. The Pope has no real wealth. For all the gold and jewels in the Vatican, Blessed Pope John Paul II lived in a run down apartment comparable to many in the central belt of Scotland.

    No.

In 2011 the Holy See made a loss of about $18,000,000. For two decades the Church was losing a fortune on Chruchmen donating to charities beyond the means of the Church. Besides the earlier principle I stated above, that the Bride of Christ and *'s churches deserve the best that humans can offer, much of the wealth of the Vatican is associated with great works of art that only have a value because of the people that created them and who, furthermore, were devout Catholics. You can't sell the Pieta or the Sistine Chapel, they are invaluable monuments of art that testify's to man's Catholic faith. Even the previous metals in the Vatican would not amount to much, and after it's all melted down and sold, what then? No more money, no money income generated by tourists, etc. It's throwing the baby out with the bath water.

And the Church's teaching is clear. Give to the poor and those in need. The Church has never stated it's necessary to give everything to the poor and those in need. There has to be balance and moderation.

The Pope's "Gucci pumps"? His red shoes were a donation from a local Italian cobbler.

That sacrifice he made was born in him because of his Catholic faith. It's not all that bad then, is it? :86:

Our Lord here is speaking of spiritual attachment to material goods, and not the mere possession of them.

I agree with intellectually absurd.... no point arguing with them, it's better just to wind them up on their delusional belief system.

Can't argue with that mate. Wouldn't knock a Glaswegian for singing it in English though. Just glad it's still sang with pride at the games.

Will this do for now? Just a handful there generate $5,570,000,000 for charitable works.

Do you mind if I ask how that conclusion was arrived at from those words? Seems like a bit of a get out of jail free card to me.
