Maybe it had nothing to do with the so called increase in laddishness. Might have been for any of a million other reasons. I didn't particularly enjoy the forum when two former mods who are now banned and shall remain unnamed were on here banning those who didn't agree with their views. I also didn't enjoy it either when certain other members who are also now banned derailed every thread with their trolling

A football forum with most members being males 16-40 is always going to have male banter. Like it or not

Yet the Catholic Church is still the leading charitable institution in the world. That throne is centuries old and belongs to the Church throughout the ages. And furthermore the Church's primary purpose is not to alleviate material poverty, there is no hypocrisy. The Church is here as a visible authority to guide us to eternal salvation. She is not an NGO for social workers with a "cause".

And you realise Patrick Pearse was a diehard Catholic and papist, right? :86:

Did Jesus not advise to give away all worldly possesions?

Of course it's hypocritical to keep millions, if not billions of pound worth of precious materials while asking poor people to donate and help out those less fortunate. What would Jesus have made of the Pope's hand made Gucci pumps?

I'm well aware of Pearse's religious leanings. However I'm able to separate my disagreement with them from my respect of the ultimate sacrifice he made for the people of this island. My wee granny is as devout a Catholic as you're likely to find and yet I love her dearly :bbpd:

I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of *. When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with * all things are possible.” Matthew 19:23-26
