They were saying on Talksport earlier that he actually gets paid more than Messi and Ronaldo in wages.

All players wages are just guessed though to be fair, no-one knows what anyone is on really. For all we know Rooney may only be getting £200k and is probably sitting thinking "I wish it was £300k".

Know what makes me sick. It will take me 10-15 years to earn what he gets in a week.

Great player on his day but he's never in the same bracket as Messi, Ronaldo etc.

If you worked 40 hours a week on minimum wage it would take you 24 years to earn what he gets in a week :smiley-laughing002:

This has nothing to do with it, people always reply with that when I mention Messi's wages, but it's irrelevant to the discussion. Top footballers wages are disgusting- people are happy to complain about Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez when discussing this, but always leave out Messi. He makes just as much/more than any of them.

As to dragging the club through the gutter, the reason he doesn't do so is because Barcelona give him exactly what he wants straight away. His wages are on the rise, the £300,000+ a week they give him just isn't enough apparently, he's always demanding & receiving more, whether anybody loves him or not.

I get what you're saying but it just seems that Rooney forces the clubs hand without any grace every year or two.

As for Messi, he is certainly twice the player of Rooney but won't be earning that much more.

I can only hope that the two donate heavily to charity.

I think if Barcelona turned down Messi's demands for more money, he'd be feeling out Manchester City, claiming to be 'unhappy' etc. But they just give him exactly what he wants- makes sense in footballing terms, but the sheer amount of money is just horrible imo. Nobody should make the money Messi makes, let alone a football player.

Makes you wonder about the 'lesser' players though. Like what they do after football?

I'm talking about guys that say, play for Hibs and earn £2k a week. Now say they earn that their whole career (18-35 for example - which is unlikely tbh), that is 'only' £1.456m. Now, if he lives until 78, then that represents an average living wage per year of just under £25k (the median salary).

Do you think they get jobs after football? Guys like Ronaldo, Messi ane Rooney et al obviously don't have to but I wonder about the 'forgotten' footballers. End up as plumbers, telling everycunt they used to play for Hibs/Motherwell/ICT or something. :smiley-laughing002:

Thats exactly the kinda thing that goes on. If they don't go into coaching/managment/journalism/media then they go into everyday jobs with their stories to tell.

If £300k is the figure they settled on, it does suggest that he was after more than that and this was the compromise.

I am usually all for capitalism but that wage is beyond mental.

Chris Clark, played for Aberdeen and down in England, championship league 1 level I think retired at the end of the season and signed for cove rangers and now works for the same company I do in some office job.

Must be depressing as * sitting in an office 8-4 Monday to Friday knowing for the last 15 or so years you've been paid a lot of money to do something you love doing.
