Yes but he brought quality in with the money. The likes of Sutton, Lennon, Thomson, Valgaeren and Hartson. We both know Rangers spunked a lot of money on very little. £12m for Flo ? :smiley-laughing002:

They may have spent more but our squad was still superior to theirs in that period. Even the sports journalist in this country admit Rangers done well to win trophies during the Martin O'Neill era.

Yes and that was down to the management. O'Neill bought quality, in his first season, with what he had. Which was meagre funds compared to what he was up against.

It's a bit like Liverpool buying Andy Carroll for £35m and City buying A
Negredo for £20m, if you get me.

You've basically just said my entire point really.

Then you could amend your search to those who know English football or other Leagues whose football is not too dissimilar to Scottish football.

You did not address the fact that he did not know the club nor was he a big Celtic fan.

Aye someone who knows the style of football and how to set up a team to win games. If we brought in a manager from a foreign league he may bring in players that don't suit the league and we could end up struggling. Remember Paul Le Guen at Rangers ? He brought in players and adopted a style of football that just wasn't suited to Scottish football.

Are you saying that MON didn't know what Celtic were about before he signed up as manager ?

Or you could end up with a wim Jansen doing what Celtic minded managers and coaches couldn't and halting there dominance whilst also signing the best player in living memory..

Or we could end up with a Barnes or Mowbray.

It doesn't matter really, we just need someone who knows football and is the best man for the job. Obviously once Neil leaves, hopefully many years yet.

Yes he would know what Celtic were about. So also would Gary Neville does that qualify him?

I do much prefer home grown or Celtic minded but as we've seen from both sides of the argument is there's no guarantees..

We could but it is still a risk. Anyway lets remember this is all hypothetical as we have a great manager atm and he isn't going anywhere. The point I was making was I would rather see a Scottish/Irish Celtic man in charge who knew what the club and fans were all about. Some people might think that is short sighted but that's just the way I think it should be.

Well he hasn't played for Celtic and doesn't have any managerial experience so no he isn't qualified to be a Celtic manager. He is a decent pundit so he should maybe just stick to that :smiley-laughing002:

But MON did not play for Celtic so that should not be in your criteria. I used Neville as an example to show how far I can throw the net to find people who "know what Celtic were about".

I see what you mean. Let's just say I would prefer managers of Celtic to be ''Celtic minded''.

I expect Lennon to stay and I hope he does he has been tremendous for us !

If he were to leave I would like John Collins to be the next manager anyone agree ?

Actually sometimes I enjoy a manager with a different philosophy making there mark at a club, like Roberto Martinez at Swansea, continued by Brendan Rogers and Michael Laudrap.
