Celtic could re-sign Craig Bellamy on loan for another season in a £1.5million deal with Newcastle Utd.

New boss Gordon Strachan is keen to get Bellamy back on board at Celtic Park as he looks to the new season.

But the Celtic board are reluctant to release the £6million Newcastle want for the Welshman and the prospect of another loan looks more and more likely.

Everton though could kill Celtic's hopes of taking Bellamy back if they pay the full amount Newcastle are after. Aston Villa are also in the frame for Bellamy's signature with Birmingham out of the frame after signing Mikael Forsell.

Welsh star Craig Bellamy has signed a three year contract with Celtic. Bellamy has been on loan at Celtic last season after a falling out with Souness.

This is Gordan Strachan's fist signing and there is rumoured to be more which include Olef Mellborg and more.

Bellamy has rejected contracts off of Aston Villa and Everton to stay at celtic.

read this on another sit hope its true

The big problem boys and girls is the wages at Celtic. I would say that we are a victim of our own success...

5 years ago - pre O'Neil, the only thing we had to shout about really was stopping rangers from getting ten in a row. To get us on an even playing field with them domestically we needed to spend the cash, and fortunately we had a good manager who came in and signed a few key players, adding to what we already had.
The problem is though that O'Neil actually in all liklehood probably spent about 4 years signing budget in the space of about 2 years. The fact that the turnaround in fortunes of the club in those first 2 years was nothing short of miraculous has mean that weve had to pay grossly inflated prices/wages for players because selling clubs think we can follow these initial large signings with others. Eg - Laursen - 1.5m, Rab Douglas - 1m+, David Fernandez - circa 1m. Obviously O'Neil has also made some howlers - eg Juninho, Camara which hasn't helped, but these later dodgy signings could be as a result of lack of homework on O'Neill's part due to time constraints imposed by the illness suffered by his wife...

Either way, the upshot is that in his 5 year tenure he's probably spent the lion's share of a 5 year budget in the first 2 years. However this shortcoming in cash has been highlighted even more because everyone wathcing Celtic in the last few years has observed that we were maybe 2 or 3 players away from making a real mark in Europe.

This success O'Neill has created has also meant that weve rewarded (as we should btw) the players doing the business on the park. So guys like Thompson, Lennon, and now Bobo are on inflated salaries for their worth. Problem is without rewarding the players you get the wrong attitude from the entire playing staff. This success is what financially is strangling the club at the moment. Remember, were 17 million in debt as it is - we don't want to be going down the road of the mob at Ibrox. The higher our debt, the more we need to pay out each year in interest - strangling us even more.

My honest opinion is that our entire strategy at the club needs to be looked at.
We should try and adopt the same kind of model that Ajax have - loads of scouts world wide. I know this thinking flies in the face of current conventionl thinking - ie growing home grown talent - but ask yourself this: when was the last time you saw any Scottish player come through that looked like having all the tools to be a true class act in the European arena??? For me, I haven't seen any for at least 10 years - probably more. Scottish players don't have the athleticism to perform at the highest stage (I mean Europe) - most of them don't even have the technique to kick the ball accuratey with both feet, and in general they appear to be smaller than succesful talents from the dominant nations like the Spanish, and Italians. Hence why we need to look abroad...

Rather than spending 6 mill on Bellamy and another 5 i wages for the term of his contract, I would rather see us go out and spend 2 million each on 3 teenagers of European quality potential. At least if things don't work out for them we have something to sell on, further down the line...

      Just my tuppence worth...

NEWCASTLE chairman Freddie Shepherd last night ruled out allowing Craig Bellamy to return to Celtic on loan next season Shepherd spoke exclusively to Record Sport after reports from England claimed the Parkhead club were on the verge of a breakthrough in the £6million race for the Welshman's signature. We can reveal the St James' Park chief met in person with Celtic's majority shareholder Dermot

Desmond earlier this month and has promised the Irishman he'll 'bend over backwards' to help push a deal through.

But Shepherd last night made it clear he will stop short of sanctioning another short-term deal - which means Celtic will have to find a way of paying the full £6million fee if Gordon Strachan is to get his man.

Strachan and chief executive Peter Lawwell had hoped they might be able to land Bellamy on a year-long loan if the 25-year-old did not accept alternative moves to the likes of Everton or Aston Villa.

But Shepherd said: 'We won't let him go on loan again. We played fair with everyone by letting him go to Celtic on loan since the start of the year. But we wouldn't and couldn't do that again.

'But if Celtic come in with an offer everyone knows we will help them in any way can. When they took him on loan I promised them first option and I'll honour my word.'

It's believed Celtic have reached agreement in principle with Bellamy and his adviser on the terms and length of a contract worth around £2m a year.

But if they are to find a way to meet Newcastle's price Desmond may have to help fund the deal with cash out of his own pocket.

Meanwhile, Polish strike ace Maciej Zurawski was urged to sign for Celtic and NOT Turkish side Trabzonspor - by his own club president.

The Wisla Krakow star is still waiting to see if Celtic up their offer to match the Turks' but Wisla chief Janusz Basalaj reckons a move to Glasgow wouldbe best.

Basalaj said: 'I spoke with Maciej on Monday and he said, 'Boss, I'm still thinking'.

'My feeling is he still wants to go to Celtic. Trabzonspor have spoken with him but if it was my choice, I would sign for Celtic. The prospect of playing in Britain is an exciting one for Zurawski.

'Wisla would gladly sell Maciej to a club such as Celtic.'

Talks continue with Arsenal about French striker Jeremie Aliadiere, who's wanted on loan by Celtic, and Southampton have invited boss Gordon Strachan to make a £700,000 bid for defender Claus Lundekvam

If it was that easy to identify european quality for £2 million pound each everyone would be doing it...and then...the prices go up....
Any decent teenagers are going for a lot more than £2 million....you get what you pay for...

Yeah, just like decent older players eh??? It's not a question of identifying them - it's more a question of how much we are prepared to pay, and whether our scouts are acuurate in spotting the talent. We have far more chance of competing with the big financial clubs when we are fighting over 17/18/19 year olds, because the big clubs aren't prepared to make the gamble. However, if Man U, Chelsea whoever are all looking closely at a particular youngseter, there's a fair chance they are going to be useful in the future. The fact is we picked up Stan Petrov for a few mill, and look how that signing has turned out. The key to doing this kind of business is a good scouting system (which we apparently don't have, or is it focussed on a different kind of player.) The fact is teams like Porto who don't have huge finanical resources can unearth inexpensive young talent is because of the links they have in Brazil.
We on the other hand don't have these natural links, therefore we need to do something about it - we need to unearth our own talent. It is the only really cost effective way of making the club grow. Thing is, nationally, we are producing very few talented youngsters (imho) that are capable of making the grade at the highest level, therefore we need to look further afield...

How can we possibly justify ourselves with some of our signings/contracts when you have clubs like PSV, Porto etc, who all have smaller wage outgoings than us but are still competing at a higher level in Europe??? We need to look at things differently..
