They (we), actually do. First of all, if you are not overly ignorant than you should realize that English for us, the Russian fans, is not a native tongue , so you need to cut us some slack. Secondly, you are simply not familiar with the Russian linguistics. In Russian, the Brazilian striker's name is ВЕЛЛИТОН. The first letter В is pronounced as [vɛ]. In English, there are 2 distinct letters V and W, but both of them transliterate to В [vɛ] in Russian, so that's why you see some Russians fans with intermediary knowledge of English making such mistakes.
