Thomas Hitzlsperger comes out.

It could be argued that the ones that come out at the end of their career are. If they wanted to change attitudes and send out the right messages to younger gay players then they should have came out when they were playing.

I have no problem with gays at all as long as they act normal and not prance about like a woman. I couldn't give a * who they're riding tbh

Agree could still make a lot of difference ex players doing it aswell. But in a way I still don't get why people feel the need to make it public honestly

 

fair enough, and I agree to an extent.

But having to live with being gay and having to keep it a secret just because you're in the public eye must be difficult to deal with also. So in that case I say well done.

 

It's not like the guy is in the public eye anymore either he's been forgotten about so doing things like just going with guys nobody's going to really notice accept the odd individual

Well a young lad took his own life because he came out and says he was gay maybe that's why I kind of agree with you I don't get it but if it stops something else like this happening then maybe it's a good thing

It doesn't affect me if he's not or even if he is

 

But examples in football are few and far between. In 1990, former England Under-21 international Justin Fashanu was the first professional footballer in Britain to reveal he was gay. He took his own life eight years later, aged 37.

 

It sort of is a big deal, though. There have been no high profile players coming out as gay. That Robbie Rogers fella, who was *, and not Hitzelsperger. Until someone comes out in a top league, this type of stuff will make news. You know when someone does come out, there'll be loads of homophobic chanting, then it's up to the FA to punish the fans, and work it out, like racist chanting.

 

I think people hugely underestimate homophobic feeling in the world. Coming out as a footballer i think is far more difficult than people imagine.

If a premier league footballer came out today he and probably his family and friends would get pelters for the rest of his career by the type of moronic * who wish death on walcott, everywhere he went he'd get abused like mad and being the only open player its not like he has anyone to turn to.
