When players reach the end of their careers, some like to look for one last massive paycheck (e.g. Pirlo, Lampard, Gerrard and basically everyone who ends up in US or China).

Meanwhile some genuine footballers will want to finish off by fulfilling some ambition or desires that is unfinished.
Like Larsson when he went back to Helsingborgs at the age of 34 and played his last 3 years there because he always had the desire to finish his career there. No doubt he took a massive paycut from his Barcelona salary when he went back.

I think Ibrahimovic who is certainly someone who respected Larsson and possibly even idolised. From that he probably watched in awe as his idol Larsson became a * here and want to follow his footsteps.

So I certainly can see this happening and I feel he would be willing to take a massive paycut too. Tbh he was on 250k per week at PSG, thats like 13 million a year. I am sure he has made more than enough money to the point that money is not really that big of a deal.

 

he seem to have hit his peak in goalscoring terms last season, i would think he could easily hit 50 goals here, although players have struggled to adapt. it would still be and absolutely ridiculous signing in a good way

I can't really see what he would get out of playing for us though, he can win championships and get champions league football at psg if he just stayed. he would probably rather prove himself in the english premier league first

 

Most players seem to go the money route though.

Very few step down to clubs on average money just to play for them, Larsson as you say, Roy Keane coming to us other than them I can only think of Gattuso who I think went to Sion, Rivaldo to Olympiacos, Seedorf who went to Brazil(his wife is from there I think), Roberto Carlos to Fenerbahce, some other Brazilians who go back to Brazil - Ronaldinho, Ronaldo etc

 

Frank Rijkaard, Piere van Hooijdonk, Dirk Kuijt are the few I can remember of the Dutch players. I can name probably twice as much that said they wanted to end their carreer at their old club and didn't. Ok, Huntelaar is waiting what Schalke wants to do with his contract.

 

Do the bookies not do this every so often to to get a rush of bets from punters thinking they're on to a winner? Easy money for them.
