celtic your favourites in green .... present day.. let the people sing

spot on mate , to get 51% the fans would have to stump up around £40m at todays valuation of the club .
would that 51% all vote the same way ? i don't think so .
none of the £40m would go to the club , it would all go into the pockets of the guys selling their shares .
    an impossible dream me thinks:38:

Quite a few German clubs follow this model, and to a lesser degree Motherwell have been attempting the same thing.

If all supporters are pulling in the same direction then it would definitely be an option. However, with the divide in our support, it's not something I would want to happen. Especially if some fans views on here are anything to go by.

Lets suppose Celtic is owned by the fans. What list of changes would you want in order to move the club forward?Surely many fans will share the same agreement. I know what I would like:

    1. Cheaper tickets for domestic games.
    2. Invest heavily in our youth system.(includes bringing coaches from other countries Germany, Spain, Italy, etc)
    3. Give the manager full financial backing.
    4. Bring back the Green Brigade also include standing sections.

That list is only a handful of changes I would love if Celtic were owned by the fans.

Would never work the way things are at the moment. Would be good to hand it over to the fans to show how hard/easy spending money on top players while balancing the books really is.

Year old club ? We would only need to put in

Really can't see that happening Mark, it's a completely different situation, the white/Kelly regime was a financial nightmare, they had no funds to invest, where using the club as a piggy bank to raid, they didn't have a clue about running a football club as a business and were inept at best. Change in the nineties was needed as they were responsible for steering the club/company (same thing) towards extinction. The current board have an impeccable business plan which is geared up to safe guard the future of the club against all threats. Referees, SFA, SPFL and militant ultras.

Yes, clearly. For every club. But important to bear in mind, no matter the current difficulties, we could be in a far, far worse situation and with far worse owners.

I don’t think it would be that much different to the current way the club is run. The only difference is that it might make us a load of money.

Anyone a member of a golf club? Can’t stand it myself. Plenty of people at work are members though. Here is how it differs from a Ltd company or a PLC. If you wish to be a member, at the AGM you get one member one vote. It doesn’t matter if the club has 1000 members of 1,000,000 members. (At the AGM you’d need proxy votes or something). If someone is a shareholder at the club they pay money to the current shareholder or to the club if it is an IPO. With a membership your fees could be say £200 per year, independent of being a season ticket holder or any other money you give the club. I say £200 because at only £3.85 per week for life, no matter how tight your household budget anyone could afford that. Imagine fees income every August say £200 (paid in one go or in instalments) times say 100,000 members = £20 million per season added to what we already get.

If in the future we ever get into the EPL and become a worldwide brand to match Man Utd, RM & Barca etc I could see us with the right management with 1,000,000 members at say £300. That’s an extra £300 million just to add to the wage bill. This seems a long way off but the principle stands.

There are practical difficulties, such as admin costs might mean we only see an average of £170 per member or the fact the Dermot Desmond owns 29.9% of the club. The reason for this precise number is that with 30% he would be obliged by the stock market to launch a formal takeover bid. I think he has been good for the club i.e. he paid for Lennoxtown and subsidised to club for some money, but with his wealth, what is the point of half measures? If I had his money (£1bn) there would be no reason to have such a significant shareholding in Celtic if I did not want to invest (read up the wage bull with personal wealth, giving Celtic an unfair advantage) in the club. This proves he treats the club like a toy, as Charlie Nicholas once said. I envision the club borrowing the money to buy his shares, then repaying the money over a number of years, with part of the member’s money.

There may be other difficulties, but they could be overcome.

    What does the group think?

why do we need to own the club?

if the fans actually stuck together when sections of our support are being singled out then we would have all the control we need. Fan leadership is what we need not fan ownership.

Strange how the poll for whether or not Lawell should leave looks a lot different to this, or were people wanting the fans to take over and leave him there? :97:

Fan only golf courses are in financial distress all over Ireland. Once a
few fans wants their money back , the trickle becomes a stream and
pathetic whole thing goes pear shape , and court cases follow one
    after another.
The money needed to buy out current investors and give the club a
sound financial base would be incredible , and it is inconceivable
that there would be sufficient Celtic fans prepared to hand out enough
money each to raise the necessary amount . Decisions would cause
splits and divisions and the fans would still have to employ someone
or group of people to make day to day decisions . How would we
go about buying a player , wouldn't all fans want a say , is new player
going to be interviewed by all the fans. Crazy idea !

After the 2 share issues in the 90's the fans should own the club, lock stock and barrel now
