I could just imagine Broony trying to dive and pulling a hamstring..

As much as I am disgusted with neymar, Brown gave him the opportunity to get himself sent off.

If Brown walked away after the initial foul, he gets a yellow and we get at least a draw.

I've seen this argument thrown about quite a few times since last night and I have to say I'm very disappointed with it.

So an opposing player feigns injury to trick the referee, and the referee buys it and makes a poor decision. But the cheating opponent and the inept ref are alright in your books, as Brooney deserves to be sent off for making it easy for Neymar to cheat?

Another argument that baffles me is "But the intent was there". As if Brown really intended to kick the player but somehow managed to miss from point blank range.

Brown was obviously frustrated by Neymars diving (and the referees blatant REFUSAL to follow the rules of the game by issuing a yellow card for the first instance) so he flicked a wee boot out into the air, the same way you see players and coaches do up and down the country every week without punishment.

The problem Brown has is that his boot touched a nearby player, with the force of an autumn leaf hitting the ground, and a combination of cheating and poor officiating conspired against him.

    Red.

Neymar is still an over dramatic * though.

    I concur.

A lot of people on here think its OK to cheat though.

The referee was conned, but it's Browns fault for somehow allowing the referee to be conned.

And folks can spare me the "I've seen them given" BS.

I've seen everything given, but we shouldn't be vilifying our players for poor refereeing, and downright cheating from the opposition.

Every time a player makes a tackle or has the audacity to own a pair of arms and hands inside their own penalty box, it gives the referee the opportunity to send a player off.

The onus should be on the referee and linesmen to get decisions correct, not on the players to presume the referee might be an incompetent *.

I thought he lost his temper but you could almost see Broony's wheels turning and he tried to stop the wee kick or half miss him at the last second. It was harsh IMO and the play acting was a disgrace. Wouldnt like to see him if he stood on a plug

I find it funny how he hasn't done anything like this in years and he waits till we play Barcelona to show that ugly side of him, I'd love to know what made him do what he did.

He did it against Shaktar in the second leg, we were just lucky enough the ref didn't spot it.

My thoughts at the time were that it was no way a red but a definite yellow, but as I was sat at the other end of the ground I thought after reading reports of it I would change my mind when I saw it on TV.
Having now watched it on TV, I have changed my mind- it wasn't even a yellow!
It's a good job I don't play football any more, I wouldn't be able to afford the fines!

Aiming a kick at someone isn't even a yellow?

If you've ever plans to play again, you better read up on the rules.

Still don't think it was a red.
I honestly can't tell if Broony was trying to just run past him and accidentally knocked him a tiny bit, or if he tried to boot him properly but missed, or if he tried to do a sly kick but * up by getting caught.

Either way the contact wasn't even enough to knock a ladybird over, and as for intent - well it wasn't clear.

I still maintain Brown wouldn't have got a red until Neymar started rolling around like a popstar on MTV.

I'll re-phrase it. For the 'kick' I understand the rules say it should be a yellow. However in my opinion, it was the tiniest of flicks and shouldn't be a yellow. It wasn't remotely dangerous, it didn't give Celtic any advantage, it was just a bit of- arguably understandable- petulance.
I think under the circumstances the ref should be allowed just to 'have a word'. Unfortunately, as in most aspects of life these days, it seems we have to have hard and fast laws , and the application of common sense is forbidden.
I wouldn't have blamed the ref it were a yellow, he would have had to give it or be risked being marked down by his assessor, however I do think he was influenced by the Barca players and made an incorrect decision by showing the red.

I've had a thought, either way he should have been sent off, if the kick was only a yellow that would have been two bookings. One for the cynical foul and one for lashing out. He got a straight red for the kick but it wouldn't have made much difference.
