I just got an email from my best mate (he's part of Celtic Minded) think a * load of Celtic fans are no gonna let this rest :50: :

This afternoon (17/07/07) on Real Radio, the DJ Steve McKenna played the record "who knew" by Pink. As the record finished, McKenna made this remark: "Who knew?... Big Jock" - the broadcast then cut to a commercial break.

For anyone who isn't aware, "Big Jock Knew" is the catchphrase of the scum huns, who are trying to blacken the name of Scotland's greatest ever football manager by attempting to implicate him in the Celtic Boys Club paedophilia scandal involving Jim Torbett. These disgusting reptiles have been found out by society for their unacceptable bigotry and are now turning to other methods to express their all-encompassing hatred of all things Celtic and they will stoop to any level to achieve it, even using the victims of child abuse to point score about football rivalry. Initially there were only a few on the cesspit of sectarianism that is FollowFollow.com Rangers Fans Forum (run by FootyMad) who uttered this obscenity, however due to a relentless campaign by them and their ilk, it is becoming more common. The hun fans sang it relentlessly during a recent Celtic v Rangers match, which shows how commonplace it is becoming.

In an effort to try to deal with this, I have in the past contacted Ewen Cameron of Real Radio (not during his show) and spoken with him at some length about perhaps featuring the subject on his Football Phone In radio show. His take on the matter was that giving it the oxygen of publicity would only serve to make it worse.

Stunningly now, on the self same radio station that Cameron works for, Real Radio, a fellow presenter sees fit to make "the big lie" an active part of his broadcast to a significant proportion of the Scottish population.

McKenna has been sending out a "form letter" apology to the many who have complained. It reads as follows:

    Quote:
"I like a laugh and I'm sure you do. If you've ever listen to me before you'd know both as a father and broadcaster that's not a subject I would ever, ever knowingly joke about - under any circumstances. I wouldn't even discuss it on air.

I sincerely appologise if I've caused any offense it really, really wasn't my intention."

    Steve

I find his apology pathetic, believe it trivialises the issue and further that he is lying through his teeth.

First off, his remark that he "likes a laugh". Is one to assume that McKenna finds the subject of child abuse amusing? Secondly, he mentions that he is a father. Why would he mention that fact if he didn't know that "the big lie" he spouted on live radio to the nation was about child abuse? Finally, he states that it wasn't his intention to cause offence - what were his intentions then? To suggest that McKenna was unaware of his remarks is utterly ludicrous. Perhaps he was put up to it - I don't know and frankly I don't care, he is in a position of responsibility and should know better.

If McKenna and the management of Real Radio think that we, the Celtic fans, are going to accept that pathetic and trivial few sentences of apology as retribution for such a disgusting slur, then they need to think again. Jock Stein is the greatest Scottish football mangager of all time, with unrivalled success at club level and who died in service of his country as the National Team Manager. To slur this great man when he is no longer around to protect his good name, particularly with an allegation of such gravity in such a despicable crime is wholly unacceptable.

So, we the 18,000+ membership of CelticMinded.com call for McKenna to be relieved of his position and seek a statement of apology and explanation from either Jay Crawford, Programme Controller at Real Radio or the bosses of the parent company Guardian Media Group.

Until such times, an active campaign of boycotting Real Radio will be pursued by this website, the aim being to inform all Celtic fans of this disgusting slur and the pathetic apology recieved thus far. The campaign will get more aggressive as time passes until we recieve the retribution we are seeking.

I would urge you all to complain about this matter via the Real Radio website:

Never posted before but thought you might be interested in what I found on the Guardian Media Group website when i was emailing them my complaint about McKenna.

"GMG's owner, the Scott Trust, adopted these values as its own, and they continue to inform the way in which we run our business - operating GMG as a proftitable enterprise while always seeking to adhere to principles of decency and public service.

    The Scott Trust values are:

    • honesty
    • cleanness (now interpreted as integrity)
    • courage
    • fairness
    • a sense of duty to the reader and the community
We put these principles into action and fulfil our responsibilities primarily through our day-to-day business conduct and the editorial content of our newspapers, websites and other media".

I have asked them how their values stand up in light of their employees vile "joke".

What are my chances of a response?!

once again the laugh is on celtic or celtic fc connected if i were jock steins family or celtic fc board i would be holding him accountable for his words
on his grovelling apology not once does he say sorry to any of jocks family or any the people he "likes a laugh" about
I find his apology pathetic, believe it trivialises the issue and further that he is lying through his teeth.

Has anyone that complained even had their emails acknowledged? I hope they don't think they can sweep this under the carpet (although scumbag McKenna is still on air apparently)

So, we the 18,000+ membership of CelticMinded.com call for McKenna to be relieved of his position and seek a statement of apology and explanation from either Jay Crawford, Programme Controller at Real Radio or the bosses of the parent company Guardian Media Group.

I'm with them. This can't be allowed to go unpunished.

i hope so, but the radio seem to think that an 'apology' will suffice.
