We are reportedly lining up a an offer for John Wolyniec (New York Red Bulls) & are said to be going to make a third offer for Shalrie Joseph (New England Revolution).

Wolyniec is another striker with a good scoring record in the MLS. Joseph is a defensive midfielder but has played in central defence and as a full back. We made a bid OF $1 million dollars for Joseph back in August last year and had a $2 million bid rejected in January, this looks like a guy who is at the top of WGS radar. Anybody know much else of him or seen him play?

Wolyniec is *-awful. In a nation infamous for terrible finishing in front of the net he is one of the last-choice strikers for the national team. I mean like, 10-15 people down on the chart. And his strike rate is really bad in an average league. I read that too but was hoping it was a mistake. This guy is REALLY bad.

Shalrie Joseph, however, is a very good player. Capped by Grenada because some idiot told him he wouldn't have a chance with the USMNT :( This makes us all sad to this day. He is a defensive mid, an incredibly strong physical presence in the middle of the park with good vision, decent passing and a strong shot. Holds the ball and slows temp well if its necessary.

Yeh apparently WGS was attracted to him because of his ability to dictate the pace of the midfield. Wolyniec has been transferred 10 times in 7 seasons, I think that speaks for itself.

His stats are below. 30 goals in 140 career games and he is a target man striker. Not exactly what I call stellar. The only reason he's playing so much as it is is because their manager didn't want to burn out "Jozy" Altidore, our U-20 forward who scored the brace against Brasil, because he is only 17. We can rest safely though, because the odds of him gaining a work permit are... small. To say the least.

note: You might drown in the huge amount of stats in the link. For some reason we Americans feel the need to analyze and quantify everything in athletics.

I'm hearing that the Wolyniec rumor was a mix-up and Celtic are actually interested in his teammate Altidore.

Is there a source for that? If true, that would be much much better. Look for highlights of the U-20 WC to see how he and Freddy play together... it's simply stunning sometimes. Altidore's very powerful, too, but New York may be very reluctant to sell. It's not exactly like they need any money.

*edit* Nevermind, I found a source. There is the problem though that Jozy doesn't turn 18 till November. So he's in MLS for sure till then.

JVOH- agree but still got nearly 30 games and wasnt injured as much in the 2nd part of the season, maybe adjusted to the game and weather
Zurawski-good 1st season , bad 2nd season-still got a few goals, we will see how it is when the next season starts
Miller- Can play the ball down well and can be a useful sub can sometimes chip in with imprtant goals but is not the best thought
mcdoanald and killen- good scores in SPl last season and will be good assets but not CL class as id say

As a New York fan I hope we never sign Joseph. What a * scumbag this guy is. Tonight New York played New England and at the half as they're walking off the field some guy was giving Joseph some stick, nothing to serious just the usual "you're *" type of stuff, and Joseph throws Gatorade at this guy and his young son.
