Lustig or Matthews?

Lustig calm composed handled world class players better and he also chips in with the goals

 

18 months ago, when the thread started I would have pick Matthews. Now ? Lustig by a mile. No competition. One of our best players.

Lustig is a lot lot better than Matthews to be honest.

Still , he isn't a "lot lot better", people just have short memories.

He is. Aye, when both are on form there isn't a lot between them but Matthews hasn't been at his best for a long time.

Lustig is far, far more consistent and consistency is an important thing.

Lustig is our best player for me. Think Matthews is very overrated.

 

Matthews didn't have bad games for us when he was fit, consistency was never a problem.

He is taking time to get back up to speed though but that happens.

 

Matthews is vastly overrated by our support i think

 

I mind saying on here when Matthews got injured I wonder how long it will take for him to be called *, overrated etc when he comes back, it was almost immediatly

Matthews is a really good player, fast, strong, good defender, good dribbler, good work-rate. Lustig is better but Lustig is quality. Lustig and Izaguirre are good £6/7million full-backs. Matthews just now is only a £4/5million player but he is 5 years younger than them.

 

No chance Mathews was ever a better player. Not when this poll was made, not before and not now. Lustig struggled at the start of his Celtic career when he came to us trying to get used to the league. But he was class last season and ever since. Mathews has never been better than him ever. Maybe one day but certainly not now. Having seen Lustig play for Sweden before he arrived here a was always impressed and like him then so maybe am biased but a would like to think I'm being totally honest.

A don't think Lustig is in a different league either a just think it's an extremely easy decision to make that Lustig is better. A think Mathews is excellent, a rate him very highly. It's no doubt right back is our strongest position and were very lucky to have both.

 

Like both but its Lustig all day for me. Great bit of business from Lennon to get him on a free, he's one of our best players

 

I wouldn't mind seeing Lustig getting a chance at centre half next season. If Van Dijk goes, Lustig would slot in nicely and will always be reliable. Ambrose may go also, maybe sign 1 and partner him with Lustig. It may also help Fisher who we now know is a reliable deputy for Matthews.

 

Matthews wasn't anywhere near the same player after coming back from his injury.

Hopefully he'll back to his old self when he comes back.

 

I really like Matthews but in my opinion Lustig is one of the best player at the club.

Doesn't look out of place at any level (champ league/internationals etc) and could easily perform in any of the top leagues

 

We are blessed to have two such very good players at the club, and it is very hard to even try and seperate them on levels of ability etc, but if you were to twist my arm I would probably settle for Matthews, as he can play the left back and the right midfield spot effectively too, but as I have already said, very hard to seperate them.

 

Just said in the IN/OUT thread I'd like to see us get shot of Lustig.
