Look I suppose it comes down to this, Some Celtic fans support Celtic solely for footballing reasons, and that's fine. There are others myself included that see Celtic FC as more than just another team we buy into the whole tradition and culture of the club. Now maybe this tradition and culture is a false one but its how we see our club. I could never see myself supporting a player who openly supports a political point of view that in my opinion flies in the face of what Celtic represents.

Many of those defending him are the same ones who are outraged at any political expression from our support

Suppose most of us should never set foot inside Celtic Park again with us being British and the history of genocide this country has, and still does have.

Just a heads up, anyone bringing the Israel/Palestine debate into a thread outwith the HP&R section from this point forward will be dealt with accordingly.

Keep the political chat out of it.

The problem is not him being from Israel but his post in support of the army during the current conflict.

I absolutely hate it when some Celtic fans say they don't mind what players' beliefs are, as long as they do a job on the pitch.

In all honesty, I'd much rather the exact opposite. I'd prefer it if we had a squad of honest, hard working players who weren't that great, rather than have a team full of really gifted, talented players who have views like Nir Biton. People like him don't belong at our club.

Also as one or two others have mentioned, our players should be held to the same standards as the supporters. Our supporters have been continuously prevented from expressing their political beliefs in recent times. At the very least, the same should apply to those earning thousands a week of the back of these supporters.

Aye quite right, * the results, challenge for a Europa league spot and hopefully get a run in one of the cups, that'll do me nicely, as long as they respect and agree with "our" beliefs, and can at least kick the ball.

    Why is that?

Aren't we "a club open to all"?

As I said last night Biton is entitled to have whatever opinion he likes. However the idea that these views are legitimate because he was born in the Israeli state is just stupid. Not everyone born there supports the current genocide.

Not that they are legitimate, just that you can maybe understand why he is the way he is and hopefully he can change his opinion over time.

He also did post the peace thing afterwards, that has to count for something.

The big man was fantastic today, just strolled through the game.

I really think he should be a starter in our team, definitely in Europe.

It was one thing he posted and the peace thing should count as well. He probably has family/friends in the IDF as well so I'll forgive him for hoping they don't come into harm.

Back to the football. I missed today's game, how did biton look? In previous games I've really liked his reading of the game and range of passes.

I wouldn't say * the results. Of course I'd like the team to be successful. There are plenty of talented players available who don't support organisations who kill innocent children.

However, I'd love it if the club still served the exact same purpose that it did when it was founded. And after that, if we achieved some good results - then great. Unfortunately with our current board and guys like yourself this will never be possible.

I don't agree with Biton's post. His peace post was probably a backtrack. Biton was raised in Israel and will have lived through these life experiences. He will have his own assertions on all things Israel/Palestine. I have mine from afar. I don't have to agree with him. But if he is playing for our team on the pitch and doing the business, I will support him. But on the pitch only in those hooped shirts.
