Would love to see this happen... and soon. We were creating chances on Saturday and crying out for a top class finisher to put them away.

@football_oranje: Heerenveen director Gaston Sporre has said tonight that keeping Alfreð Finnbogason is the clubs top priority this summer.

Gonna be hard to get this guy unless we bid high. Hope we really get him so we needa pay up

    Update from Heerenveen.

Yesterday our new interim-chairman was interviewed for the local TV station. He explained our financial situation. That situation is not so bad that there is a need to sell Finnbogason. We will be a few million short this season, but the financial position of the past will cover it.

We can not invest in new players, but there is no need to sell as well. So they will do what they can to keep Finnbogason in Heerenveen. He also said that the numbers that circulated in the media were unrealistic. He said the number would be closer to 10 than to 5 million... So that would be around 8 million Euro's. Something i did not expect.

He also spoke with Finn's agent. He said that Finn would not mind to play another season in Heerenveen. He is very happy, his girlfriend likes it here and his relationship with Marco van Basten is very good. If a very good club would like to have him, he will look into it, but if not, he's happy to stay here.

Heerenveen interim director Gaston Sporre has said that the club's difficult financial situation may mean that they cash in on their prized asset but that he did not feel that just any bid for Finnbogason would be accepted.

"As things stand, we run a weekly loss," Sporre told Heerenveen's website. "This is a development that I can not ignore.

"You should not make things unnecessarily complicated. If there is concrete interest we go to the table, but he is not reduced in the market.

"The amounts are circulating in the media are heavily outside reality. Those people do not have good knowledge of the facts,"

Would be glad to see him come here but I think it's looking more and more unlikely. Also we'll need to bid high and I'm not sure we're willing to do that sadly.

Wish Lenny would have just came out and slammed the door on this transfer because he was directly asked about him.

The way i look at it, we could have had Finnbogason 12months ago for 450,000. We missed the boat on him then and look at the mark up in 12 months - for an Icelandic international.

If we can't get him - and if Heerenven want to price him out a move - we could carry on going after the next Finnbogason - Hólmbert Aron Fridjónsson 8 goals in 13 games.

The web prices him at £50,000 - 2 weeks wages to some players.

I suppose it's not exactly a gamble at that price but they guy plays in Iceland. No offence to that league but it's not as good as the SPL. I'd rather sign players from relatively decent leagues, players that stand out there.

Well these are exactly the kind of comments i kind of want to highlight. I know he plays in Iceland. He plays in a poor league - say he goes to the dutch league or the belgian league and scores lots of goals. He's then worthy of a 4-5 million pound transfer fee - and therefore, regardless of where he has come from, he was always good enough.

I remember guys on here talking about signing Finnbogason before he went to Heerenveen and it got shot down in flames with the exact same worry, that because he was playing in a weak league - he wasn't good enough.

The Dutch and the Belgian teams seem to have a different philosophy.

No, Finnbogason went to the Swedish league and was still banging them in. That's fair enough. If this boy you are mentioning moves on to the Norwegian/Swedish/Danish league and still impresses then definitely, I'm all for us signing him. He would still be relatively cheap.

I hear you, and i do agree. Although Balde came from a better league. I think Balde will do OK, but if a guy came in from the Icelandic league and scored more goals it makes a mockery of this concept.

It's kind of irrelevant though, as Lenny is never gonna go down this route. In saying that i would love for us to be trying our luck with a number of under 21 internationals and at this price - if it doesn't work out it's no big deal to write that money off.

Obviously we want Finn, we will try everything we can to get him - but if we had taken this gamble last season.....instead of Miku and Lassad, who came from far superior leagues.....

Lassad I feel could have made an impact had it not been for the fact Hooper was flying and even Sammy/commons and Forrest.. He's a quality player imo. Miku also.. Played great away to barca.. Those two are quality euro players but for spfl..not so much, quite sad really.

Can't believe the game has been finished for 4 hours now and we haven't bought him yet.

Seems to have gone quiet on Alfie since the deadline for the third qualifying round of the CL, but I think that was to be expected. I'd expect a lot of movement between now and the next deadline and I'd hope that Finnbogasson would be high up on the agenda, as well as a new centre back and a centre midfielder.
