Atrocious. We knew he was never gonna set the Champions League alight but he didn't even score against Cliftonville ffs.

Dear * bring us a striker.

 

We won against Cliftonville though we didn't need him to score.

Also "bring us a striker" is important considering Stokes is better at playing behind a striker as he's a number ten and not an out and out goal scoring striker.

And he's far from atrocious too.


(I'd assume you're going to post similar things in the Pukki and Samaras threads at least, considering they've hardly been banging in the goals everything week to say the * least)

 

What do you mean we don't need him to score? He's (meant to be) our number 1 striker for *'s sake! This is probably the only time in Celtic's 126 year history we haven't had at least 1 good striker in the squad, it's embarrassing.

No-one expected Stokes to do well in Europe but he's not even scoring domestically now, which is pitiful.

As for the bolded part, they've all been equally woeful this season, I have said as much on many occasions and would frankly become depressed if we were to discuss who was the shittest of them all so there's no point in that.

 

Sammy with 8 goals in 22 appearances this season.
Stokes with 6 in 27.

And some people on this forum would have you think Sammy is having a worse season and has been less prolific. With Hooper leaving, Stokes hasn't stepped up in being our leading forward this year imo.

 

The worrying thing is, there was plenty on here who were happy with us going into the CL with Stokes as the main man and did expect him to for some reason score at that level, most thought he "just needed a fair chance", when really he's not good enough.

 

In all competitions, there are 2 Celtic players ahead of Stokes for goals scored with Forrest joint on Stokes's tally.

Commons - 14 goals
Samaras - 8 goals
Forrest - 6 goals

None of the 3 mentioned are out and out strikers either, ridiculous.
Van Dijk, Mulgrew and Ledley are only 3 goals behind Stokes.

 

He badly needs a goal..

His overall general play for the most part has been good though..

 

Stokes has played well in most of the games of this season, and he is one of the main reasons we are unbeaten in the SPL and miles ahead of the rest. It dozent matter if he hasn't scored so many goals this season, as he is playing his part by creating assists and drawing defenders out of position for other players like Commons to score. We are playing a different system now, the diamond shape formation, and most teams don't play with two out and out strikers anymore in today's modern game, so really goals tally for a striker is not the main issue anymore.The main issue is the goals come from somewhere, not necessarily from the strikers as we have seen with Virgil, Ambrose and Lustig chipping in.

 

He started the season well, but for the last couple of months he's been poor.

Should be scoring double the amount he has so far.

 

I don't understand why there are people like you who still defend him to the hill, he isn't scoring enough goals, simple as.

Up to it, Sammy is the best and he isn't prolific. If i was Lennon I'd get McKay and finbogasson too and punt pukki and stokes.

 

he's been * *. not just lack of goals but his overall game. lacks game intelligence imo, needs a strike partner who does, a la Hooper, for him to play well

 

Although Anthony Stokes hasn't had the best of seasons I do like him as a player. I think the thing people find the most frustrating about him though is his inconsistency. He'll have a spell where he looks really sharp and is able to display inventive pieces of skill but then he'll have a run of games where nothing will come off for him. I don't think he's been helped either with our inability to replace Gary Hooper in the summer and being asked to be the main striker when as shown in the past his abilities are better suited to playing around someone like Hooper. Hopefully we'll start to see the best of him again if we manage to sign a suitable striking partner in the near future.

 

It's a bad day when yer defenders have better chances on goal. He did have a great relationship with Hooper but his lack of goal is * shocking right now.

 

He isn't doing it this season, neither is Pukki. I think this season Stokes is being found out.

 

Seems to have been avoiding criticism from alot of folk despite goals. Pukki has been stealing that rage I think.

Yep, I'm pretty sure he was signed to score goals, however it seems he's been labelled some sort of assist machine, with all his 'running aboot' 'dragging defences, etc...'.

Well, at least we have: Atajic, Balde, Bangura, Watt, that Icelandic chap Fjirdoorsson or whachamacallim....oh and Sammy (he's magic up front as a striker).

Yep and were signing more strikers apparently......yipee!

He should be benched and replaced by Balde .
