I have just been told that MON has confirmed his expected exit from the hoops :54:

Its a shame but his wife comes first and I wish him all the best in the future.

    Not yet he hasn't!

    Noon D-Day for O'Neill

Celtic have called a press conference for noon where manager Martin O’Neill is expected to confirm his departure.

O’Neill is understood to have decided to step down to care for his ill wife Geraldine.

Former Scotland international Gordon Strachan, who left Southampton last year to take time out of management, is favourite to replace him at Celtic Park.

As Celtic are a plc the Stock Exchange must first be informed of any change of management and there has been no confirmation so far.

A club official confirmed an “announcement” would be made on the day O’Neill discussed what is expected to be his final game in charge, Saturday’s Tennent’s Scottish Cup final against Dundee United.

yeah, just watched sky sports, they had a reporter outside CP, and at 12 o'clock they are going to show you the press conference. They said it is very likely MON will leave and Strachan is the replacement. So get it on to sky sports news!

It's about * time tae..they have kept us waiting, and finding out different info from papers. As soon as word was out Celtic should have done the stock market business and then told us. Will they definately anounce the new manager today, or could they just say MON is leaving?

Maybe I should just go up Parkhead and see :87: lol, no in this pishin rain but!

    its official

    bye martin

Martin O'Neill has confirmed he is stepping down as Celtic manager.
The Northern Irishman's future has been the subject of intense speculation in the last few days.
O'Neill is understood to be quitting his role at Parkhead to look after his ill wife Geraldine.
The former Leicester manager's assistants John Robertson and Steve Walford have also left the Celtic coaching staff.
O'Neill has done a remarkable job at Celtic since taking over in the summer of 2000 helping the side to three SPL titles and two Scottish Cup successes.
The 53-year-old won the treble in his first season before leading Celtic to the Uefa Cup final in 2003 where they lost to Porto.
O'Neill will take charge of The Bhoys for the last time in this weekend's Scottish Cup final with Dundee United before handing over the reins to the new man.
Strachan has been out of work since leaving Southampton in February 2004 due to health reasons.
The former Aberdeen star and Scottish international has been waiting for the right opportunity to get back into management.
He has been linked with several jobs, but he will now be given the stiff task of replacing O'Neill at Parkhead.

o martin we do o martin we do o martin we do o martin we love u

Would like to congratulate MON on all he's done for the club, especially giving us a bit more clout on the euro stage but nothing changes by staying the same. Good luck to him and his wife but we've got to look forward.

Here's hoping it's not GS and TB that take over. That's got to be seen a huge step backwards.

Well, its the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in the history of this great club. I wish Martin all the best and the fact this is a rolling contract leads me to believe that we may well see him take over the reigns again. I understand his reasons and whilst ive been critical of him in recent months hes been the catalyst for our recent successes.
My only concern is our signing policy. Will Strachan be allowed to tamper with the squad in terms of incoming and departing players if there may be a strong possibility MON will return? Or will MON have a little input, who knows? Anyway this is not the time for speculation, lets all dedicate this thread to pay homage to without doubt, a manager held in the same esteem as Maley, McNeill and Stein. HAIL! HAIL! MON!
