Even the thought of remaking Point Break is * sacrilege.

American Psycho? No * way. Whoever is even thinking about remaking this should be put to death by firing squad.

To be fair though, the Al Pacino "Scarface" film was a remake.

I don't get all the hate towards remakes. I agree that there is a dearth of quality original writing in modern cinema, but just because someone remakes a film it doesn't mean they're going to destroy all copies of the original.

Most 80's movies haven't aged too well. It's been a long time since I seen Poltergeist so I can't comment on that but the original Total Recall and Robocop special effects look hilariously bad nowadays. Audio production/mastering is much more advanced nowadays as well, one thing that always annoys me about a lot of older films is the muddy sound quality.

Another good thing about remakes is that they can remind you of a good film you haven't seen in a while. Must give Poltergeist a watch one night. :50:

    I'm not picky.
Just goes to show the lack of ideas that are coming out of Hollywood right now. Just seems to be remake after remake. We have the Superman ones, the Robocop one, Total Recall, Evil Dead, Carrie....and if it's not a remake of an original American movie it's an American remake of a Japanese movie i.e. Ju-on (The Grudge), Ringu (The Ring), and even Old Boy is getting an American remake as well.

Just noticed on that remake list that Lethal Weapon is up for a remake as well! That one shouldn't even have been thought about in getting a remake!

No need to remake any film. Just let them be.

Of the list above, the idea of a present day remake of The Warriors makes me sad.

The absolute worst idea to date (that I refuse to watch) is the remake of the Wicker Man - set in America with Nicholas * Cage!!

    :47:

Makes me angry just thinking about it

Don't like the remakes myself but there is a market for them and they can do well. Its psychologically proven that we like what we know, therefore remakes are easier to sell to the public than a new idea.

Cloud Atlas for example, I thought was a new age concept and a great film - it flopped! Peoples brains don't really like anything that gets in the way of our comfort zone.
