We clearly have a very good scouting staff who have spotted some excellent players in the last few years and have proven they know what they are doing when it comes to signing up top quality players for relatively small amounts of money.

Whats to stop EPL clubs keeping an eye on players Celtic are interested in knowing they are likely to be very good players. An EPL club then only has to offer transfer fee's and wages much larger than Celtic for that player because they can afford to.

I get the feeling thats what has happened with Tonev, Lambert will know all about how good John Park our head scout is and it has alerted him to Tonev. Aston Villa have now offered £3.5 million for the player and probably 3 times as much as Celtic could pay him in wages.

Should Celtic's top priority be to keep all transfer dealings as secretive as possible because the vultures of the EPL will be watching very closely.

Tonev hasn't moved to villa though? Plus you can't really say that because its maybe happening with 1 player

There's a lot that goes on that we are not privy to.

I know for a fact, for example, Wanyama was known by the majority of the EPL but no one (apart from Celtic) was willing to take the risk on the unpolished diamond and his ability to play at a higher level.

I think our scouting system can only do so much but the ones we have converted to signings have been excellent for the most part and long may that continue.

It's a war as far as scouting goes so much competition for players it's unreal. Gone are the days you could watch a player without other clubs knowing. It's a sign we are doing something right when other clubs want in on our deals. I hope we become like Ajax but without being a feeder team which they are now.

i beleive this is why we are linked with so many players to confuse them on who we are interested in

How do you know that we weren't chasing him? It just seems a bit naive to presume we're only after him because you are. Lambert has a bit of a rep for picking out obscure players.

And I'm not here to discuss who is bigger or get into a fight, just wanted to say that.

I thought that Wanyama turned down an EPL club and chose Celtic. I cant remember which one.

They were 'interested' was the extent of what Vic said when he signed.

I can handle that. But to be a feeder team to an English club or any other club That would be awful for such a great club like Celtic. Ajax will get money out of their arrangement but I would feel sick if that was us. There is big achievement in finding players and developing them.

You can't just look out for players Celtic are interested in and just bid for them. That's stupid. What would be the point in having their own scouts?

We cant match EPL clubs like Villa thats the problem. Villa could realistically pay him £60,000 a week, we cant.

Celtic are a much bigger and more historic club than Villa, Im talking about in financial terms.

Villa don't pay wages like that anymore. They used to under MON when he had them in the top six but it left them in a state financially and they had to cut back on wages. Although they could still offer wages in the 30,000 - 40,0000 range.
