He can say what he likes, couldn't really give a flying duck. It's quite funny, Hooper who? I certainly hope it turns out this way.

Maybe he'll be a bit of a huffy c***, but maybe he'll go out and bully defenders, score lots of goals and sell on in a big way. At 22 and 2.5 million - it's a good deal. Think we could do worse than bring in his strike partner too. That would get all that business taken care of and he'd have a buddy to hang out with as soon as he arrived.

Spot on Dev. It is of paramount importance that we keep our name in the European spotlight if we want to continually improve and sign players that fit our current recruitment policy.

Sometimes you need a player with a certain arrogance. It's players like that who will either end up cult heroes at the club, or a complete flop. Obviously I hope it's not the latter. I'm not going to look up any youtube videos, cause they could make me look like a decent player. But hearing the likes of Porto and Newcastle are interested, to me shows he isn't a bad player. But in an ideal world, we'd keep Gary Hooper and not need to sign a replacement.

Don't like the idea of a someone badmouthing their potential future team-mates.

I will ask my Portuguese friend about him, he is a huge fan of Sporting and also is a dedicated follower of the Portuguese league. I will post later what he says.

Some will say that that kind of chat makes him sound confident, but personally I think it makes him sound like an utter bawbag.

Seems like a cross between Hooiveld and Mo Bangura.

My sporting friend says... "Balde is a talent who scored 9 goals this season, I think. Tall and strong body. He is still pretty young, and he can develop a lot. He should use more of his length in his headers. His technique is not that very good. He scores goals, especially in a league where you don't put defence first. He would probably get around 20 goals a season."

He also said that Porto were interested but they will not buy him because of the high price tag for him that Sporting set, if Porto wanted to buy him. Balde gets a lot of praise in Portugal apparently.

9 goals in 17 matches (only 9 of which were starts) in a good league, against teams like Benfica, Porto and Sporting Lisbon; 6ft 4 and (seemingly) strong; quick, with a good touch.

    That'll do for me.

Can't guarantee success with any player, but this guy has the attributes and record to make me feel comfortable with the club throwing a couple of million at trying to get him here. Only question for me is, is he £2-2.5m better than Tom De Sutter (who has about as good a record, similar physical attributes, is an international, and would be free)? He's a few years older, but would still have some sell-on value.

Would love to see both here.

“If a deal is reached where I end up playing for Celtic, the fans will be asking themselves after a just a few games, ‘Gary who’?

    Oh *.

Can't imagine Stokesy will be too chuffed about the ''I have more ability than any striker at Celtic'' comment. Hope he can walk the walk.

It was the comment saying 'I have more ability than any striker at Celtic' that got me. That's a great way to start off with your new team mates (if he signs)

He does come across a little arrogant in the interview, something that I usually hate. Although when you read some of what he says it does seem pretty positive.

We had Tonev saying he wants to play CL football and that we could offer it to him, yet there's plenty of talk that he may go to Aston Villa instead.

When someone like him is saying that they want to win lots of trophies and play in the Champions League I believe them.

    Let The People Sing,
He's 22 and hasn't played with the best of teams. He has scored 19 goals in 69 games in his club career so far. Thats no too bad.

I like a bit of arrogance in a player.

He looks a half decent talent in line with our signing policy so why not?
