My Mum and her man are buying a flat in Glasgow, I'll live in it next year for college then they will rent it out to students probably.

Budget is limited, looking for a 2 bedroom. Options seem limited with what is going just now.

I've only lived here for the past year, right in the city center in student accommodation, so pretty oblivious to what happens outside the center.

She was in Bridgeton today which I'd already heard about, said she went for a wander after viewing the flat and came across a Rangers pub and a street with tonnes of Union Jacks... haha. She said there was no chance! Also viewed flats in Springburn which I know has a reputation.

Where would you advise not go and where to look? Cheers!

Stay the * away from Bridgeton. Dump and full of huns.

Depends what the price range is and if you're looking for in town or near town.

I like where I stay, Cardonald. Near enough Glasgow and Paisley, plenty of amenities like bookies, shops, garages, public transport.

But for other places, maybe finnieston? Partick? Anniesland? Pretty decent places there.

Depends on the price you are looking to spend.

City Centre accomodation is extortionate so you have to move out of the city for value. Problem is most inner city places are bear pits.

Maybe try just outside Glasgow. I moved to Blantyre ten years ago and it's the best move i made. 20 mins on the train to City Centre, decent prices and a slightly better standard of living.

Haha, Yeh avoiding Bridgeton for sure. What is Springburn like nowadays?

Budget is around 70k, So priced out of the city center really. I'm at City of Glasgow College, wouldn't mind a slight travel in though. Closer the better though.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

I would say a decent area is Georges Cross or any maryhill area nearer the town. Dont know how much theyd cost though but that area is fairly quiet, close to the town and stuff. Not that quiet, still your local neds and that but you wouldnt get any bother.

Springburn isnt that bad but you probably dont want to live in Galloway street but again you probably wouldnt get any bother.

If you mean like a flat in a close id recommend ones in Maryhill, ones on Hawthorn street or Keppochil road in Springburn, or ones on Ashgill road in Milton across from the chapel.

The worst that goes on outside the city centre, is wee guys and lassies boozing in the streets at weekends, usually singing loudly, the odd fight, sometimes the odd stabbing or murder, you might live next to people that are selling drugs and in some areas there will be a few stolen motors skidding up and down the streets every now and again mostly at weekends and sometimes it will turn into a polis chase with the helicopters out. Not that bad really but probably worse than most other cities in the UK.

Anywhere east of Shettleston, anywhere west of Bridgeton, anywhere north of ibrox and you'll be ok.

Partick/Whiteinch/Scotstoun - all nice enough areas, won't be too expensive, close to being in the city centre without actually being in it. One of the easiest to travel from. If you lived in Partick there is bus, train, subway all within 5 minutes of you and you could even walk to college.

Earl Street still is to an extent. But round about the leisure centre is nice enough.

Earl Street? Is that the street you go in one end and out the other, like a inverted cul de sac?

I got chased out of a street in Scotstoun a couple of times trying to score weed.

they didn't like outsiders for some reason, only after you had bought yer gear funnily enough. :smiley-laughing002:
