Good player but if he looked like Davie Dodds nobody would give two * about him.

Great player in his United days, still a good player now.
Say what you want about the MLS and LA Galaxy signing him, but the guy has managed to play at the top of every league he has played at.

Thank * he's retiring though - minus the next 3months of a wankfest that the English media will make of him, thankfully this will be the last of it.

Don't care for the guy really, but good luck to him I suppose.

I can't stand the whole image that follows him, but he was a top player, superb crosser, superb free kick technician, excellent passer and really played his heart out every time he played. Not to mention a really sound guy too.

I can't understand why people despise him.,

He was a good player but a big part of him going to teams was for publicity and money. Was a great crosser of the ball, good passer and good with freekicks and corners, hardworking.

A step up from Nakamura and Alan Thompson but as good as Ze Roberto or Juninho(Lyon) im not sure.

Hope he doesnt end up on TV, his voice is like a cross between Steven Naismith and a 10 year old lassie.

Would he have got over 100 caps, signed by Real Madrid or even went to LA Galaxy and PSG if he looked like Stuart McCall... I doubt it.

I can't help but like the guy, fantastic free kick taker and I'd argue he's the best crosser of the ball in the world.

World Class in his day and better than anything England have now. In the same league as Scholes and Alan Shearer as world class players. I would say he is about a 100 steps up from Alan Thompson lol.

He wasnt ever world class and isnt in the same League as Scholes. Dont kid yourself. Giggs is better than him and there was periods were Ljungberg and Pires were better than Giggs.

I think to include him as world class your setting the bar too low and it means lots of other players would need to be called world class too Giuly, Nasri, Ljungberg, Ze Roberto, Juninho, Di Maria, Nani, Van der Vaart etc etc

I've always liked the guy, great technique and pinpoint accuracy on his crossing, free kicks and passing.

He's certainly scored some memorable goals in a career that had it's highs and lows.

    Good luck to the guy.

Alan Thompson was a better player than David Beckham.

    :smiley-laughing002: No he wasn't.

Beckham went on to play for the likes of Madrid, Milan and PSG. He was world class; Thompson wasn't.
