Worst option for me would be someone who has pretty much peaked as a manager and wouldn't develop much more, someone who managed in English lower leagues or at best lower Premiership team. Those are usually managers who never had outstanding successes throughout their career and aren't very adaptable to different surrounding (which Scottish football definitely is compared to England), in a word mediocre. There would be plenty of those lining up for a job if/when Lennon leaves.

What I'd like to see is someone who has the talent, but no experience or an older, successful manager who would like to have a crack at a team with less pressure, with this possibly being his last job in his career. Trappatoni, Hitzfeld, Lippi, someone like that.

First type would be great, but it's also a risk. If he turns out to be clueless then it would take a few years to recover from that. Lennon turned out to be good and rebuilt the team Mowbray assembled, so I think this would make the board seriously consider young managers when the time comes.

Second type of manager is equivalent of player who moves to club he loves when he peaks or is slightly past his prime, but definitely has a lot to offer. It wouldn't be cheap, but they would most probably be a good choice, if not outstanding. Older manager with shitload of experience and trophies behind him would do the team a world of good. Problem is, they rarely come by and if they did, I don't know if they'd be lured to come to Celtic.

if and when lennon moves on, i'd want a gaffer with a good technical understanding of the game. wouldnt care where he was from, as long as he was tactically knowledgable and could progress the side.

we should look at the unfashionable leagues in eastern and southern europe or bosses who have done well with a smaller team in the eeredivisie, bundesliga etc.

like someone said before, murat yakin looks like he has the makings of a good manager. used to like watching his brother, hakan yakin, play for switzerland - he was some player

Would never want Mick McCarthy. The guy plays in the lower echelons of English football and generally FAILS. He plays to not lose, rather than playing to win. Can you imagine him managing us in the CL? He would be out of his depth, not to mention everyone in England would laugh their heads of that wee accepted a second/third rate English manager. I'd rather we won/lost with any other manager than a second rate English manager.

Dunno. I'd go Dutch if foreign, before any other nationality. Wim Jansen springs to mind but honestly the whole philosophy and tactics set up there is second to none imo.

Or maybe Kenny Shiels. I mean he texts Pep and Mo on tactics sure.....

    I'm not picky.
Perfectly happy with Lennon and even though he's still a rookie, he's gaining more and more experience and will hopefully be with us for years to come.

Hypothetically, though, if Lennon left then maybe we could attract someone like Paul Lambert. Done a fantastic job with Norwich and, even though he's had a hard time of it with Aston Villa, I think he'd do a good job for us.

I remember him: very, very big on ridiculous levels of physical fitness IIRC.

If we go the ex-celt route, how about Henrik Larsson....he has a little coaching experience from Landskrona. But to be honest, I am not sure if I want Henrik to come back to Celtic as coach, expectations would be so high and if he fails he could tarnish his King Henrik reputation here (kinda like Kenny Dalglish).

We have no chance is luring top class managers with reputation, so no Moyes, Lambert or Martinez, etc

However Owen Coyle's stock seems to have dropped quite considerably and I think this time round, he would jump at the chance to manage Celtic. Lately he's been linked to Wolves (a Second Div team) and Millwall (a lowly championship teams)....don't think they would be more tempting than Celtic, even with the current state of the SPL. He has experience with working on shoestring budgets (well, at least in EPL terms) and has decent experience .

Lennon did not sign or pick the players.

Does that mean he can't be held accountable for the poor signings either?

Yeah, high tempo, continuous pressing, all out attack style of football. It's not been unknown for his team to leave 2 in defence with 8 bombing forward, and not when his team's been losing either :smiley-laughing002:

Indeed, he left the Roma job not long ago, is in his 60's and doesn't think he'll get another "big" job... I think we could offer him something, at the very least the champions league but also it would be nice having someone who never lets the team slack. He's a one-of-a-kind manager, he really is...

Yes it does. Dont really understand why people blame Lennon for bad signings. Its the scout team that look at the player in the first place.

The scout team is insanely good, and i would worry MUCH more about loosing John Park then Lennon or any player in the team.

He didn't do too well at Roma , if I recall. And it's a concern that, throughout his career, he never stays anywhere for too long.

    Can he speak English?

So no manager can be praised for good signings or slated for bad ones? Is that the theory here now? The manager has ultimately the final say on the player.

Ofcorse he can get praised and slated mate, but most people only tend to critisize/slate the manager and not the scouting team who does 90% of the work.
