This is my first post guys - sorry if this has been asked before ! :smiley-laughing002:

    BUT

What calibre of manager can Celtic attract nowadays? Especially in the current climate i.e absolute * poor SPL. I know Lenny is the gaffer, I think he is cracking (although has quite a few areas he needs to work on) but I am speaking hypothetically if/when Lennon leaves.

Before we could attract Kenny Dalglish (became horrific, especially at Celtic, but he was a high calibre manager in my opinion). We were also being linked to Guus Hiddink before MON and then of course we actually signed MON who had rising stock from his time at Wycombe and Leicester.

Just like the SPL's dwindling stock; has Celtic became a dwindling stock? Would medium-great manager's not be convinced by the prestigiousness, history, achievments and fanbase of Celtic because of the league?

Me and my mates have argued endlessly over this, I reckon we can still attract middle quality managers, guys like Brendan Rodgers (if he were not at Liverpool) would come to us - at least to get some recognition and increase their value I reckon. Is it naive to believe the novelty of managing our club could still attract a decent calibre of manager? :shamrock:

Depends what you mean by calibre, however, our last 2 managerial appointments have been entirely fan driven. The fans wanted a better brand of football when Strachan left so we got Mowbray, then we wanted a 'Celtic man' that could connect better with the fans. Now apparently the majority want more experience, reading between the lines. I'd imagine the board would appease the fans again.

We don't need another manager so the thread is redundant.

I like the way that Murat Yakin of Basle has got them playing.
Now if we could get someone of that caliber ...

I was merely asking - hypothetically. Most of the threads can be classed as 'redundant' i.e. the lowest points since 1999/2000 - we have won so it can be classed as 'irrelevant' and the Jose Mourinho thread - he would never come to us, therefore why ask how good he could make us!

I was basically meaning can we attract a 'top' manager i.e. managers of top 6 teams in leagues like: England; Germany; Spain; France; Italy; Holland and International coaches etc. Or would it be middle team managers/ managers who have been out for a while.

Yup. The world is teeming with managers who can do better than 2 in a row and the last 16 of the CL on a shoestring budget...

The world IS teeming with managers who could win 2 in a row with celtic in scotland, but no one is denying that the champions league progress was impressive.

The current manager got the job because no one wanted it. I think it would be a similar story again if we needed a new manager.

I think we could attract a more experienced and better organized manager, than Lennon.

I very much doubt it , the SPL isnt exactly a great attraction now is it ...We have the best man for the job in place , his record is impressive , yes he makes mistakes but all rookie managers do in their first few years .

Lennon will go after next year I think, if he does well hel properly get a good job down south where he has said he want to try. Sunderland keep struggling we will end up with eather someone older that hasn't had a crack at Europe or a good up and coming manager trying to get a good job down south.. The Celtic job seems to have a shelve life of 3 to 4 years. I'd like the Wigan boss, but pritty sure hrs been head hunted with the way he goes about his job..
