Re being a postman there was a thing on the BBC a couple of weeks ago about a deaf postman that keeps being bitten by dogs. Now I don't know how hard it is for deaf people to get jobs but as this kept happening to him I couldn't help thinking this guy must really love being a postman!

A dog is an animal so it must be trained and respected by the owner and treated as a dog! I have 2 German Shepherds at the moment soft as *!!!! I like to think that I have trained them well, but I would never leave them alone with a young child. Even though I have nephews and nieces at 3 years old telling the dogs what to do!!!!!

I don't understand why people let dogs off the lead when they know they'll do that. My dog is one you would call dangerous but his wee gf (my sistes dog) is a yorkie/jack russel & he gets bullied by her. But I wouldn't leave them alone together for more than a few minutes just to be safe.

It's all down to how responsible the owner is... and too many folk are just selfish, lazy, ignorant clowns.

I have a Bullmastiff and he's a wonderful dog. But I'll get back to him. These dogs Involved in the tragedy would bark and snarl out of house window as people walk past. There alone would tell you that these dogs are dangerous. Dogs should not be barking out a people walking past. The neighbours knew this and the owners knew this, hence the threats now against the owners.

My bullie is huge, from a pup I had the children around him and feed him. I would get the kids to feed him, place the food dish in his tray then as he goes to eat, the kids take it from him for a few seconds then give it back. Then Pet him as he eats, from a young age the dog knows that the kids give the food also if the food is taken its always given back so no threat of losing dinner.

Bullmastiffs are good pets but you need a strong owner so the dog knows his place. These were poor owners and a girl paid a terrible price now the dogs will pay the same for cuntsvfor owners.

Worrying people do choose to own aggressive dogs for the purpose of using it to intimidate.

Small dogs like Jack Russell's probably attack people as often as Rottweilers or other big breeds. The difference is that if a jack Russell goes after a young child then it's very unlikely that it would kill them. If a Rottweiler goes for you then even the average man would struggle to overpower them. What you're saying is that these dogs should be banned because of their size?

not having a go mate but thats exactly the problem. People see these lovely fluffy dogs as pups and think ''ahhhh theyre class'' they dont research the temperament, size, etc they buy these dogs and when they grow up big strong dogs theyre left into pounds or else turn on dogs and people because they simply arent socialised properly. I agree that dogs arent born killers, but when a dog with strong jaws turn then obviously they are going to do more damage that a collie or jack russell. Before i got my akita i went to dogs shows, talked with breeders, bought and read books, i learnt everything about akitas so that when i got one i would be able to look after it properly. I think that people should be vetted before owning any dog tbh, because if you draw up a list of dangerous breeds then people will find a way around it with crossbreeds. For the record my akita is fantastic with people but i would never leave her unsupervised with anyone, i would never let her off the lead either because if she got into a scrap with another dog there would only be one dog walking away and i would hate if she killed another dog.

Very good post, good to see someone put the required effort into having one of these breeds :50:

I disagree with the highlighted bit though, some dogs are bred to encourage an aggressive temperament. Maybe not exactly "born killer's" though.

This whole thread has got me thinking. I reckon, 1v1 I could take just about any of our furry friends. Most would likely leave me permanently disfigured in the process though.

I've got a lakeland terrier and he is aggressive when someone comes to the door but that is about it. Like all thoroughbreds terriers they are all a bit mental but if you are a responsible owner you compensate by looking after them well.

I know it's a cliche but to me 95% of the time it's the owner being irresponsible. Suppose the question for me is it acceptable to own dogs who can kill for the 5% of he time when it is no ones fault.

It has absolutly nothing to do with the breed. A chihauhahuahauahahhahaa ow what the * the rats are called are much more aggressive that so called ``fighting dogs´´

Arent these breeds often refered to as nanny dogs since they are so good with children

terriers are notorious for having 'fight' in them, its the reason dog men bred bull breeds with terriers to make the much maligned pitbull terrier, terrier blood gives them the fight, the desire to last to the death. A dog should never fear its owner imo, these harsh methods dont work, the relationship should be built on trust and respect not fear, a cornered dog who is frightened will lash out.

The only people I ever see with these stafford/pit bull type dugs are without exception * who think they are tough, shop exclusively at JJB Sport and seem to grow about a foot in confidence, pretty * shallow specimens who cannae look after themselves let alone an animal.

No matter where Ive been in the UK this trend seems rampant on the scummiest parts of town.

Only seems to be folk on benefits as well with these types of dugs.

Anyone nit in this bracket, its a mystery why they would want to mimic this subculture!

They all seem to be *. Why do they always have the metal chain leashes too? Bet they kid themselves on that people are crossing the road because of them and not the snarling blood thirsty dog.

Slightly off topic but I really want a dog.

How much of a commitment is it? Haven't had one since primary school so can't really remember. How much does it cost per week on average? I'd probably like a medium sized cross breed type.

I have a staff and I wouldn't say I'm a * although opinions may vary ha ha.... I can look after myself, my family, kids and grand child very well.. I'm not on benefits, I've got a decent job and work hard 7 days most weeks... I dont think I'm tough and I certainly dont shop at jjb!
We got a staff as my partner and son liked them and my brothers had staffs for the past 18 years so I know how good a pet they can be and they are also great around the kids..
My dogs very we'll behaved and is not vicious at all, hes actually quite the opposite
So what you said in your post isn't always the case...
