I would rather have Miku back than this clown.

Even if he was to just be brought in as a squad player he would still be costing us a couple million. That is a couple million that would be better invested elsewhere in the side. If he was signed alongside another striker, as many have already said then I would not be as * off. However paying a couple million for him not to be a regular starter does not make much sense, we'd be as well either giving the youth (Atajic and Watt) a chance or even picking up a younger striker from abroad for below £1m who's value and potential will increase. Doyle is nearing the end of the road for me, even at 30 (soon to be).

You seriously think he could score as many as hooper? What exactly is this based on?

In theory anyone COULD of course, but never once in Doyles career has he broken the 30 goals a season barrier. In fact it took him more than 120 games to hit 30 goals in recent years.

He's also never scored more than 20 in a season. Highest was 19 in 2006

    That's it in a nutshell.

People are talking about signing him as backup as if it would be a good thing. He would be a terrible use of resources if he was going to sit on the bench IMO.

It just gets worse and worse. :smiley-laughing002:

To put it in perspective, wasn't that around the time we had the likes of Chris Sutton, Agathe and Thommo playing for us?

    I completely agree with this.

The signings that Celtic make this summer should be improvements on the starting 11 in order to progress in Europe, not squad players or 'SPL players'- that's what the younger guys should be for. In my opinion, Kevin Doyle is simply not good enough to improve Celtic in Europe.

I think this comes down to whether you trust Neil Lennon to know what's best for Celtic or not. He's explicity earned my trust.

Doyle's been spotted outside Lennoxtown trying to get autographs off our players.

    So he's in Glasgow.

Generally based on perceived technical ability.

His first season 2009/10, in a poor Wolves side, in the EPL, he missed pre-season after a hernia operation and scored 9/34 operating as a lone striker in a 4-5-1. 2 goals less than Anelka and 3 less than Berbatov. Top Goal scorer was Drogba, who didn't break the 30 goal mark in the league. Was the clubs top scorer and players player of the year.

2010/11 was an even worse wolves side where they still played 4-5-1 only he was rotated with Steven Fletcher and torn a ligament. 8 goals (In all competitions) in 31 games. Rooney scored 13 leagues in more games. Tevez was top goalscorer but was lucky to break the 20 barrier nevermind the 30.

2011/12 was a complete right-off for Wolves. No striker would have scored a decent amount in the team. He only managed 4 goals. Suarez got 11 and Van Persie became the first striker in a long time to hit 30 goals in the EPL.

I feel that what he brings to a team is being over looked by bad looking goals per game ratio. You only need to look at the tremendous time he had at Reading. Which is why Brian McDermott wanted to reunite with him at Leeds.

Doyle will score goals a plenty up here, with better service, a strike partner, better manager and an overall better team.

I think tonight will turn out like a wet fart and no striker will be brought in until 24 hours before the Elfsborg game.
