It's almost certain since the Orbis uses off the shelf PC components and Blu-Ray drives are no longer new technology.

Looking forward to see how far they can push it.

PCs don't end up so far out of date as they used to. They are that fast these days each revision is a tweak rather than the huge leaps of years ago.

Too many people get too * about having the fastest and latest gear and want the machine to run far more frames per second that there is no chance they'd ever notice.

Massive diffrence between 30 FPS on a console compared to 120 on PC.

That's pretty much a given, the PS3 dev kits have 3 ethernet ports but the retail console has 1. You can probably rule out 4 USB ports as well as again the PS3 dev kits have 4 but the console has 2.

Yep, I remember the ps3 had a really random spec when revealed, was it 2 hdmi ports or something daft :smiley-laughing002:

Two hard drives it is, it's also got a * load of memory card slots, just strange unnecessary stuff :56:

Here's the PS3 dev kit here, the PS2 is for size comparison

Some new info coming from an unnamed developer who spoke to Edge magazine:

The new PlayStation could launch in the US and Japan in late 2013 in time for the Christmas period but might launch later in Europe, specifically early 2014, to ensure stock doesn't run out due to excess demand. The only way I can see a games developer knowing this is because they've been told to prepare to press discs for the Japanese and US markets but hold back on Europe.

Further confirmation of the touch pad present on the new controller, although the source suggested that it was on the front where the start and select buttons used to be rather than the back which has been previously suggested. My thoughts are that there's maybe several different prototypes doing the rounds or it's been confirmed by the literature that comes with the dev kits but not yet seen. There's also confirmation that the current Dualshock 3 controllers work fine with the dev kits.

An updated version of the PlayStation Eye will launch at the same time as the console meaning Sony will almost definitely continue PlayStation Move support throughout the early days of the PS4/Orbis at least.

Further confirmation of the new "share" button on the controller and some news about it's function "The developer also claims that a new Share button links the console to social networking services, allowing gamers to capture and share screenshots and video instantly with the console automatically buffering the last 15 minutes of gameplay for editing and uploading directly on the console."

Other info I've gathered from a different source is a comparison between the Orbis and new Xbox claiming that the Orbis is faster than Microsoft's console with 1.84 terflops of computing power to the new Xbox's 1.23 but the Xbox will have double the memory at 8gb. There's two reasons why I'm filing this info as bullshit, firstly although a lot of info about the Orbis is common knowledge in gaming circles, info about the new Xbox isn't so the 1.23 terflops figure could and most likely be a guess, and secondly it's an old rumour that the Orbis would have 4gb of memory and newer information suggests that it will indeed be 8gb.

I think I'll be getting this over the new XBOX when they come out.

I've been XBOX loyal since 2008, but mine has just about chucked it now and I often hear people I know with PS3s saying that they have experienced very little problems with it over the years. It seems as though Sony have the edge over Microsoft when it comes to console manufacturing.

I had a PS1 and PS2 years ago and they were both class also :50:

I've never had an Xbox before, the only time I took it into consideration was when waiting time was over for the PS3, while weighing up the pros and cons before buying it I noticed that the "cheaper" Xbox 360 wasn't actually that cheaper at all, £50 a year to play online, £60 for a w-fi adaptor because the early Xbox didn't have it built in and controllers that required batteries or the extra expense of a rechargeable battery pack, there were a lot of "hidden" costs on top of the basic console which I though was a bit misleading to anyone who didn't bother doing their homework on it before purchase while the PS3 had all those features straight out the box.

I have always been an Xbox but I bought a ps3 a couple of years back was a good system but the amount of time updates and all that took * me off :smiley-laughing002: it just ended up being a Blue-ray player, eventually sold it when I needed a couple of hundred quid (my raging smack habit) but kinda still wished I kept it.

But I think I am going to get the ps4 instead of the new Xbox this time, seems to be a large amount of members that play the playstation on here and a few of my mates say the are going to do the same.

I've got a feeling that the Xbox might be heading toward a downward spiral this time round, with no year head start on the PlayStation and the strong rumours that the PS4 price will be relatively cheap compared to previous consoles. Add into the mix that when comparing PlayStation exclusive games to the Xbox's, the PlayStation wins by a country mile. Sony seem pretty confident in their new console while Microsoft seem to be going out their way to keep theirs under wraps, all I can say is Microsoft better hope that a large portion of their customers show some brand loyalty and don't jump over to PlayStation.

Not sure which one I will get but I much prefer 360 to PS3, Everyone goes on about how great PS3s are but mines isn't and either are my mates, They freeze often and always disconnect from EA servers on FIFA, On COD the nat type is always strict so we can't play with each other (on Xbox so simple to change this). Online is free but it's *, simple things that you get on Xbox are lacking on the PS3 like the ability to see who your friends are friends with or have a party chat. Never really had any problems with my Xbox but I've had the PS3 for over a year and I regret buying it even if the Xbox sounds like a jet engine.

Even if the console is cheap I would imagine it would cost a lot to buy an extra controller considering the dualshock ones are about £30

I've had my Ps3 for over three and a half years now and I've never had any serious problems with it breaking. Other than it freezing the odd time here or there, it has worked perfectly, and I've used it a fair bit over those years and downloaded a bit on to it aswell.

I own both and 360 is superior IMO, but I'll not that let influence my decision when picking a next-gen console.

I'm assuming that the current controllers will work with the new console like the PS1 controllers were compatible with PS2, they've been confirmed as compatible with the Orbis development kits, all you won't have when using them is the new touch pad and share button.

I've got both but I prefer Xbox, the online service is so much better which is why you pay for it.

Never even played or seen a ps3 up close tbh, ever since i got the first xbox i have never looked back. Each to their own i suppose but microsoft and xbox are my first pick always.
