Really hope we sign him, especially if it's at around £750K- £1M, which would be a bargain. Hopefully we don't miss out like we did with Fletcher and McCarthy.

I think we will sign him and will be glad if we do. However I would not be so sure about him as a direct replacement to Hooper. Russell is not an out and out goalscoring striker like Hooper, even though he does have 20 this season I know I know. It's just the opinion I have of him as a player.

We would maybe be best bringing in another poacher type (I know Hooper has more to his game yes but he is still a poacher first and foremost for me) alongside Russell. Although on the Other hand Stokes and Watt could probably make up for the loss of Hooper too. All depends on if Hooper leaves and if Lennon feels Russell could be the man to directly replace him.

Going into next season with Stokes, Watt and potentially Russell, Balde would be good going I suppose. I have left out Lassad because I have a feeling he will be moved on.

Perhaps bringing in another forward though with a good goalscoring record would not be a bad idea. I would love us to go back in for Eliran Atar who we have been linked with previously. 25 goals in 35 games this season for Maccabi Tel Aviv. 67 in 123 overall.

Stokes, Atar, Watt, Balde and Russell. There we go, plenty of competition there. Big target man in Balde and 4 strikers who know where the goal is.

i see target man being used.... im not disagreeing but we have being crying for one ever since JVOH left! been saying it every year since... thats why i dont think lennon wants a target man its not the style of play he wants the team to play down by punting the ball up the pitch! but yes maybe even one who could hold the ball up!

i say we will sign russell within this week or next... tonev is another 24 hours but i say thats down to him

Bringing in someone like this Balde guy would give us another option we don't have at the moment. Even though we like to keep the ball on the deck most of the time sometimes when that ain't working the ball might need to be launched into the box towards someone who can knock defenders about and cause trouble, win knockdowns etc. Balde also looks like he can play a bit too.

I think your comment is slightly condracting as you say Lennon doesn't want a target man because he wants us to punt the ball up. Surely if you were playing a long ball game then you would actually need a target man?:97:

Anyway, i dont actually want someone who is like 6'4 or 6'5 just because he can head a ball. I would like a small striker who is good at dribbling with the ball and can bring others into play.

Thing is we wont settle for a heafer of a target man such as a Jon Daly as we would want a ball playing target man or someone with the natural ability to develop into such. These types of players cost money usually in the circa 5 - 6 million bracket aka John Hartson, and we wont pay that.

No Celtic bid for Johnny Russell says Dundee Utd chairman Stephen Thompson.

It would be a relief as much as anything if we sign him, been wanting him here for a couple of years and would hate to see him go on the cheap to some * championship team.

Want this to happen, have a feeling it won't. Russel has the potential to be above any striker we have just now, including Gary Hooper. IMO.

Rarely excited at the prospect of an SPL signing, but could be very good business for us to get him for 1m.

Since Russell wants out which will bring his price down do you think we might put a cheeky bid for GMS aswell? I mean depending on the Tonev situation he may not need him but I would be against him joining aswell if Tonev doesn't come here.

I'd go as high as 20p for Mackay-Steven.
