If they were asking for 2 million i would have said no but for the prices quoted he would be a bargain & if he didn't work out we didn't pay much for him.

It's a culture of dependency on Celtic which will put the final nail in Scottish football's coffin. Clubs in Scotland have only got themselves to blame for the mess they're currently in.

I could be wrong but I think Celtic were one of only two or three clubs which opted to stay with Sky, but the majority of Scottish clubs voted to think short-term and take the disastrous Setanta deal.

I have to reiterate, Peter Lawwell gets paid very good money in order to get the best deal for Celtic, its shareholders and its supporters- not Scottish football, Dundee United or any other club. That's basic business. If other chairmen, chief executives and owners etc can't run or manage their own clubs properly then that's their problem- they'll have to find their own solutions (just as Celtic did in 1994).

This has got nothing to do with sporting integrity. Celtic should work together with other clubs to improve Scottish football (if it's even possible) be it league reconstruction and/or other initiatives. The answer certainly isn't for Celtic to become a charity for poorly-run, short-term thinking clubs to become dependent on Lawwell and co giving them 'good deals' and 'helping them out'. It's stupid, naive, un-sustainable and short-term thinking.

No ones saying we should become a charity. I just wouldn't grudge giving spl clubs a fair price for their talent.

    But they are.

'I wouldn't grudge giving spl clubs a fair price', 'looking after the interests of other clubs', 'we have a responsibilty to look after scottish football' etc etc- that's not how successful businesses and football clubs are run/managed.

The custodians at Celtic should get the best deal possible for the club and its stakeholders, not in order to give other clubs 'good deals' or 'favours'.

Sign the lad up 1.5 million sell on fee to Dundee u tied give them 10 percent or whatever simple they will earn way more from a sale of Russell from us than selling him outright

    * off, people blaming the agent.

The Agent gets paid to look after the players, not the clubs. Agents not to blame here.

paying 1 million for russel is great buissnes for us it outbids the italians by 200 hundred grand and makes dutd more happy im sure they will sell at that price they sold goodwillie for round about the same price i dont see how bidding more than one team for a player we want as stupid or absurd

But this is my point. Peter Lawwell and the deal-makers at Celtic shouldn't care less about what 'makes dutd more happy' or anything else. They have a duty to get the best deal possible for Celtic and its stakeholders. And doing 'favours' or 'looking after' other clubs etc goes against basic business fundamentals, does a massive disservice to the Celtic shareholders and supporters, and creates a dangerous precedent of 'dependency'. It is naive, un-sustainable, stupid and short-term thinking.

And, from my own point of view, I don't think spending anything close to a million pounds would be great business for Celtic. I've not seen anything to suggest Russell (or Mackay-Steven) would improve the current Celtic team. Although that's not really relevant to the point I'm trying to make.

He has quite a good SPL shot to goal ratio of 31 Goals from 126 Shots(1 goal every 4 shots), considering he's played on the wing/attacking midfield in probably over half his games. Infact its really good.

Griffiths for example is 28 Goals from 186 Shots.

Should definitely sign Russell will be a good little squad player for us,1 mill or so with good sell on value if need be and he did well for us,no brainer from me and is supposed to be a Celtic man aswell?

Let's not do another Steven fletcher/James McCarthy who are both rated and worth well into the 10/14 mill bracket now

Russell is exactly the kind of player we should be picking up. He's 23, a proven SPL player and has plenty of upside.

I'd much rather see us push the boat out for him than some unknown foreigner who may not settle or perform for us.
