bbc alba sportscence , streams espn that enough for you. also watch every game celtic play and had a season ticket for 13 years and can tell you right now that if you put those names to just about every fan and asked if the would prefer the two utd boys then there would be no contest

Seen him loads of times live in games against us, on TV in games against us, Sevco, Dundee and other games and highlights.

He's by far the best player outside Celtic in Scotland.

I completely disagree and its my opinion that you don't know a player if you don't rate those two young boys but everyone is entitled to debate

    Fair enough.

But as a great Celtic legend said: 'It is not his creed nor nationality which counts- it's the man himself.'

Id have him at number 5 of the best players to have come out of SPL diddy teams in the last 10 years or so:

    1. McCarthy
    2. Fletcher
    3. McFadden
    4. Brown
    5. Russell
    6. Snodgrass
    7. Gordon
    8. Riordan
    9. Dorrans
    10. Naismith

Snodgrass is a far superior player than Russell

I honestly wouldn't know mate. I neither want to nor have had the chance to watch enough of SPL players to form an opinion.

If we buy either of the two Du players in the summer then i will trust our scouting team.

Im not, I think he combines a few of their abilities.

He is faster than Commons or Stokes but not Forrest, he is stronger than all 3, better in the air than all 3, has better technique than Stokes and Forrest, more harder working and versatile than all 3, a better finisher than all 3.

I rate him highly though, I think hes under rated hes a good playmaker, a good striker and a good winger and compliments that by being a really hard worker.

He doesnt have holes in his game like other SPL players like McFadden who was weak with no pace but very intelligent and good technically, Naismith who has poor technique and no pace but really hard working, Riordan again weak with no pace but intelligent, a very good finisher and technically good.

Snodgrass is probably the closest to him but even Snodgrass doesnt have much pace and could be called lazy.

The "better than what we have argument" would imply that Hooper is staying. I doubt he will be. I think Russell could step up. As has been said, Russell combines the attributes of many of our players. Pace, creativity and finishing. I think he is promising.

Being solid in every area doesn't put him above those who have done well at a higher leve

Say what you want about these players but Heid's the captain of an EPL club, Boyd scored a * load for deadco, Goodwillie was more impressive at Utd, Mackey-Steven is just as good, and they didnt even make your list. Russell hasn't done enough to be the 5th best player the leagues produced bar the top 2

Btw all the best to him, if we sign him il welcome him aboard I rate him but obviously not as much as you

Goodwillie couldnt lace Johnny Russell's boots, he is a diddy and always was... what was more impressive about him? his poor first touch, his woeful shooting, his running into players? did you ever watch Goodwillie? he was vastly over rated.

Mackay Steven is not near Russell. Russell at the moment for me is a £2million player with potential to be a £5/6million player. Mackay Steven is a £500k player with potential to be a £1-2million player.

Boyd scored goals but he is a SPL/League 1 class footballer. Russell has already scored more goals against us and the huns than Boyd did in over 35 games.

The likes of Caldwell, M.Wilson, Whittaker, Thomson, O'Connor were all half decent but they were never £2/3/4million players.

It also doesnt matter if hes not played at a higher level, you can easily assess a player whatever level hes playing at. Doesnt matter who they are playing for or playing with, obviously they could be held back by playing with poor players but if you watch them you can still see if they have intelligent movement, good ball control, vision, ability to pass/shoot/cross, technique, work rate, pace.

GMS is not one of those players I would be gutted about missing out on but Russell is he is very dangerous and would really improve with us as I says McDonald came aling and we progressed into last 16 hooper with no experience was in a team that reached the last 16 who says Russell can't! I do agree on the big target man been saying it for years and never really filled that role!

As he says not "yet" I don't think he will be at united next season so what do we do? Wait and see what he developes into elsewhere? The. His value rises no chance take a chance in him now ...

Russell should be our No 1 target imo

Dunno what all the hype about that GMS is about either. I`ve watched him quite a few times this year and he doesn`t stand out for Dundee United ffs

Totally agree. I think Russell is a very good player who's young and has a superb work ethic, he will only improve at a team like Celtic. I agree with the other poster about the last 16 being our ceiling, that is bang on, as long as we're in the SPL we just don't have the finance to compete with the big boys who are usually up there in the last 16. To suggest we should be looking to get better than what we have would entail that we need to sign a guy better than Wanyama in centre midfield, because he's offski. It also suggests we need to sign a striker better than Hooper as he is also offski, now being Celtic it additionally means that we have a price cap of about 2-3 million to find a striker of Hooper's ilk and a midfielder of Wanyama's. I wish you all the luck in the world in trying to do that! I think even Sir Alex wouldn't manage to achieve this. What I will say though is that we can sign players who may not be as good yet, but it's up to us to develop and further the new signings for example Russell and who ever else so that they will be as good or better Hooper, Wanyama etc.
