Totally agree. Apart from the deluded who think we could win the CL, those are a good and numerous enough bunch of centre backs-probably one of the best groups we have ever had. It would be stupid to spend in that area when we probably need to spend about 12-15 million on two central midfielders, a striker and a wide player to get decent players at today's prices unless WGS unearths more cheap but quality player like Boruc and Naka or gets Bosmans. On the other hand we could blood youth (see seperate thread).

IMO O'Dea has definitely got the ability to be a superb player and the only thing he lacks at the moment is experience. time and time again we see him making rookie mistakes and we see experienced strikers taking advantage of this. Obviously the more he plays the more he will learn and will surely become a great player.

i think he's the best defender at the club, just slightly ahead of mcmanus and kennedy.
he also seems to have a good centre back pairing with mcmanus which is vitally important.

I agree with Keloti, think he's a good prospect but is bummed up way to much. Reading some of your opinions you'd think he was a top class defender which is far from the truth. He's got the potential but he aint there yet.

As for being better than Mick, bullshit is all am saying. :shamrock:

O'Dea is good but one thing I would say is he is not as outstanding as Kennedy was when he appeared. Thats why I am for next years CBs being Mick + Kennedy or Gary. Add Cuthbert (who was apparently even higher thought of than O'Dea) and that is the best group of young CBs I have ever seen at the club. Elvis will still be around as back up next season so I think we should loan Cuthbert and possibly also O'Dea next year.

I really would love to believe that but my fear is that Strachan will stick with the two scumbos even next season, and it's a situation im not looking forward to one bit.

Agree with the rest tho, think it's got to be Mick & Kennedy, tho i think GS will prob go with Mick & Caldwell to start with. Not so sure about loaning either tho, unless the clubs they're going to are of a decent standard. I don't believe that sending out young bhoys to play with the likes of Dunfermline or lesser SPL teams is of much value to us other than match fitness. I think they need to be in around quality which is why i'd sooner see them training with our first team.

Nah disagree Mr.Elvis has cost more score goals than the rest of the CBs this season and hes only been around since Jan. I would let him go but GS has signed him for 2 years which was a terrible piece of business

He was signed for nothing and given an 18 month contract in January at a time when we had 1 fully fit centre half left.

    Great piece of business.

True he came in and done a decent job but to sign him for another season was unnecessary.

Maybe, but he probably wanted that extra season for security. He was wanted by Charlton at the time.

I don't think he should be first choice next season, but could be a useful squad player for the SPL.
