Id take Malaga, Man U, Schalke or PSG, think they are the weaker teams.

Souness did raise a good point when he said United are always a completley different animal in the second half of the season. Malaga perhaps would be our best shot.

the only teams we would even stand a chance with are malaga and Shalke

I also think dortmund, bayern and the two spanish sides are better than us, and in barca and dortmund case, I dont think we stand much of a chance of beating them over two legs. But I do think madrid and bayern could be beatable if we improve a bit our form.

Quarter finals are about our level in europe this season. Not so much because we dont have good enough players, but because our style of football with no high pressure has been left behind by the dortmunds (IMO the team that plays the best football in europe at the moment) and barcas. But we aren't *, which is what some celtic fans, quite literally, were saying a few posts above.

For me playing the return leg at home is a a massive advantage, particularly if its at OT, whcih is the ground with the best home record in europe over the past 15 years (CL). I dont particularly want to play celtic because theres too much familiarity and in my case, that goes again literally with a big part of my family bering celtic supporters, and also you're a decent team. There are better teams like real but playing at CP its always daunting, and after the barca win you now have self belief in spades, exactly what we're lacking at the minute (pending the derby this weekend)

For progression, Schalke is the obvious choice.

For glamour, it would be Dortmund. That would easily be THE tie of the last 16.

Schalke, PSG or Malaga preferably. Then Man UTD or Juve. I do not want Dortmund or Bayern.

I think in all honesty that the reason most Celtic fans want to beat United (or any English team) because of the way the English media go on about how their teams are the greatest ever. Which is a shame as you dont often hear that line coming from the actual clubs, or even their fans tbf.

In my experience I've always found the United fans to be pretty good and realistic about their teams. Maybe not the proverbial ones from down south (as the jokes go) but the more local guys who travel to the games.

You're right about your Euro record, it is really good. I do feel the seeding system has something to do with this though. Arsenal in particular always seem to get very easy groups.

Fair play to you though Duncan, you come across as a good, knowledgeable supporter about your team and certainly not one who is deluded about your sides abilities.

Good luck in the next round (unless you play us:icon_mrgreen:) and more so at the weekend against City. Lets hope you can avenge that disaster last season. They dont belong in your company imo and once the financial fair play comes in you will be streets ahead of them again.:celt_2:

The atmosphere if we drew Dortmund would be amazing, they bring an amazing support. For any chance of progression, we'd need to draw either Malaga or Shalke.

I was in Dortmund many years ago (too long:54:) and it is one of the best atmospheres I ever experienced. Not sure what it will be like now with more seats in it but it was amazing that night even though we lost.

Appreciated it, man. I also hope you progress to quarters, if you dont meet us, because you're showing that success in europe can be also about the fans and proper values other than money. Granted you're a massive exception in a sea of millionaires (us included) but the atmosphere and craic you bring its always admired and appreciated.

Dortmund have everything as you well said. they have fantastic fans, incredible atmosphere at the mythical Die Südtribüne, homegrown players, and a clever manager. I think unless they meet barca they can comprehensibly beat anyone. against barca I think they'd struggle.

@ Duncan: don't really like Man Utd (prefer Liverpool :icon_mrgreen:), but tbf it's hard to argue with anything you said. Any rate, you've got to respect your club's tradition even if I don't like it. Best mate I ever had was a Man Utd fan btw...we were united in not rating Gary Neville at all (could be great in some aspects of the game, but had an awful habit of playing people onside).

Gary was a big trier and loved the united shirt, which obviously is going to make him dear to most united fans, but judging him exclusively as a player, he never was top class. I remember a period back in 2000, particularly the WC clubs in brazil where he was atrocious. A far better commentator though, the only one with any level of insight in english tv. And regardless of his quality or natural talent i love the man because he's one of those rare footballers whos invested in the fans with his supporters club in manchester

Dortmund would be a * hard one, don't fancy that much TBH. Mind you all of them will be massive games, still would like to play Man U tho'.

On a side note: ESPN have excellent coverage of all CL games, I'm in NZ and we get it on ESPN3.com.
