This is an interesting development - if he does splash the cash will those people who complained so vehemently about his appointment be complaining if they challenge for the league?

Time will tell - I'm not a Manc I don't know the facts much more than that tho...

More importantly, can Dermot Desmond now convince the Colmore mafia to invest in Celtic?

Very interesting. I can't see him splashing the cash for the players. He's only in it for the money and I think he has made 7 million today alone as the shares went up 13% today.

The man has no interest in football whatsoever. If he was in it to buy players, don't you think most of the fans would be in favour of his takeover?

Hopefully Magnier and McManus will buy shares in Celtic now that they have been bought out by Glazier. After all they are good friends with Dermot Desmond. We can always hope :p

If they do it will be to get every penny they can out of the club not to spend it.

The Man Utd fans are worried about their own pockets. All you are hearing is blah blah blah tickets will go up.

So * what. Do they want to compete with Chelsea?

    * luddites.

Aye mate but you know what it's like in the grim north - work is hard to come by - all the pits are closed - two jobs before school - it;s ok fer those southern monkeys to put their hands in their pockets and stump up nearly £40 fer a Stamford Bridge ticket.

Oh hold on - it's Manure we're talking about - none of their fans actually come from the Greater Manchester conurbation - well * them then - they can pay like the rest of us.

Well, as a yank, I hope that he does not F up things there.

What I really hope is that it is something that will draw more attention towards football in the States. Say what u will about Man U, they are one of the few teams that people know of over here in the US. Of course most over here also think Becks still plays for them too, so go figure...:87:

But if I have to guess, this has very little to do with raising ticket prices or changing traditions. Rather IMO it is more about leveraging a world-wide platform to move both licensed merchandise, and even moreso a wealthy sponsor's products.

Like I said, Man U is a known name in the US, sounds cool, seems hip (esp. in comparison to US teams), and we all know that chicks dig players. Plus the US is a drop in the bucket compared to the way such a platform can advertise/sell things over in Asia... And it is easy to see over here that advertisers are starting to take notice of both the US's Hispanic population's buying power, and love for 'futbol...

Advertisers in the US are not dumb, something like this may present a better means (sport) for them to ply their wares per dollar spent. Right now US pro sports are in a doldrum with the NHL hockey strike, and both Baseball and the NFL under the cloud of drug use/steroids. American football used to be the darling of advertisers because of the start/stop nature of their games allowing commercials to air. But we are becoming a Tivo nation in which commecials are now deleted out...

Put it this way, how many other sports have players wearing a comapny logo on their uniform... Cannot miss the Carling advertisement with Celtic, can ya...? :84:

Such a thing is not lost on a worldwide US company like say, FedEx (as an example) or Budweiser (hmmm, red uniforms)...

I think Glazer is looking to cash in on (what I hope) is the continued growth in popularity of this beloved sport by owning a markee club. Hopefully that will not be such a bad thing in the long run for the sport or the fans.

    "fingers crossed"

    Rico

£790 million for shares , I don't think he's in it for the money . If he was just out to make money he would be better off keeping his £790 mil in a savings account at 6% thats 47.4 mill a year , more than man u make a season (Profit)
