Well fans refuse to switch stands

Motherwell season-ticket holders have rejected a plan to move them from their usual seats so more Celtic fans can watch the final game of the season.
The Sunday 22 May meeting could turn out to be the championship-clincher.

But the ballot of supporters in the Davie Cooper Stand disappointed majority shareholder John Boyle.

"We thought this was a sensible suggestion which would have generated more funds for Terry Butcher next season," he said.

Motherwell's board had tried to sell the idea to the fans by claiming the additional revenue would help the manager strengthen his squad.

But Boyle said: "We said we would abide by supporters' decision and that is what we are doing.

"The club has had another successful season. But, if we are to make progress, we must explore every option to raise cash that can be directed to playing resources.

"We have a very loyal core of supporters who have been tremendous through difficult times, but we do need more supporters turning up to watch games at Fir Park.

"If they do, it will go a long way to enhancing one of the most exciting young teams in Scotland."

Butcher had himself said he would be disappointed if the fans turned down the idea of moving out the Davie Cooper Stand, claiming that the plan could net up to £60,000, the equivalent of two player wages for next season.

"At least if Motherwell fans moved to the main stand, the Celtic fans could have the Cooper stand and the South stand," he had said

"Then, although they're at opposite ends of the ground, they could be properly policed and segregated. Otherwise, there could be mayhem."

Motherwell had earlier agreed to allow Celtic to parade the SPL trophy at Fir Park should the visitors win the title on the final day of the season.

80000 celtic fans made it to Seville, do they(Motherwell) honestly think that they can avoid an invasion of their half empty stands by the hoops on a title winning day?

Dont agree with you guys. Like Jim Craig said on TicTalk tonight, if the shoe was on the other foot, would Celtic fans be happy at having to move seats if another SPL team were coming to CP to clinch the title? No, I didnt think so.

    We cant expect special treatment.

I agree, I would hate to think that a club would have the idea of moving you from the seat you have sat in for years to accommodate another set of fans in the first place. But you will see that a majority of the fans at Fir Park will be Celtic, we'll find a way of getting tickets alright. :84:

One way or the other there will be more celtic fans in the ground than motherwell - to me it makes sense to group them altogether for the sake of safety...

I know we wouldn't like it if the shoe was on the other foot, but hopefully it will be our title winning day, and it will do the club no harm to gain some extra money if some bhoys and ghirls fill up their empty seats
