We have been blessed with lots of great Celtic players over the decades and we have all witnessed many a great goal from them.

But is anyone still haunted by a sitter missed by a Celtic player?

Mine was Frank McGarvey's miss at Pittodrie in the early 80s. George McCluskey did a mazey dribble down the left wing and rolled the ball across to Frank who was about 3yds out facing an empty goal. He took a swing with his left peg and missed the ball completely and it hit his right leg and drifted out to the penalty spot!

    still loved the guy!

One that sticks out for me was Braatbakk from about a yard out, think he hit the keeper.

McGeady missed an absolute sitter in the 5-0 hammering against artmedia Bratislava, if he'd have scored that we would have went through on away goals!

Stokes has missed about four brutal sitters.

He missed another open goal against Dundee United.

Can't remember any in particular from the guy but the name "Harald Brattbakk" definitely springs to mind. If Larsson's the King (-of Kings) he was The King Misser.

Suppose you cant call a penalty a sitter but biggest miss for me was Dixie Deans penalty in the european cup semi at Parkhead.Iwas standing slap bang centre behind the goal. Will never forget it

Do you think the sitter is more forgivable if it done by a great striker like Deans or all the more frustrating?

This one sticks in my mind:

I also remember one in Seville season, Petrov away to Dundee. We drew 1-1, Thommo for us and Burchill for them, but Petrov completely missed the ball with an open goal in the first half. Always sticks with me because of how close we were in the title race that season. Had he scored, chances are we would have won the game, and the title.

Ki's two last season against Kilmarnock in the cup final.

An absolute stonker of a sitter by Kenny Miller at the back post against Dundee United (I think)

Craig Bellamy's against Motherwell, Helicopter Sunday game.

    Aiden McGeadys against Bratislava.

There is one in Europe and I can't remember anything about it except me sitting ataring going that was terrible and that was our chance... Might have been against Barcelona in Strachans time??

Stokes's done some * horrible ones.

Not really a miss but Hooper last season robbing Ibrahim of a goal on his debut was hilariously frustrating and mad.

good point. In reality yes I think if the sitter is missed by a great player or goalscorer then the fans tend to be a bit more lenient.Dixies miss was forgiven,if not forgotten pretty quickly.IMO fans back then were far more loyal to the players, not like now when they are on players backs after acouple of bad games or howlers, but I think a lot of it is down to the outrageous wages some of these players are on compared to the talent they have.

Did someone not miss an easy header in the 1970 Euro final?

Good point. A lot of fans have gotten very frustrated, almost abusive, at some of the sitters Stokes has missed. I remember Larsson missing a sitter in the home game against Valencia in the 2001/02 UEFA cup, yet that doesn't get mentioned. His reputation as a striker means that he was always going to be instantly forgiven for that. He also missed a penalty in the shootout, though he did score a cracker during the match as well.
