Im worried that if barca beat us again that will be them through top of the group. With benfica and spartak still to play. They are certain to rest players to concentrate on la liga, and if anyone else takes points off them we're stuffed

:87: Barcelona represent Spain according to FIFA and UEFA and will continue to do so until Catalonia becomes an independent country or state, Catalonia is an autonomous community of Spain of which Spain has many. On a sporting level Barcelona represent Spain, just as Sevilla do and not Andalusia (which is another autonomous community). Just because Barca embrace the fact that they are a Catalan club doesn't change the fact that they are also Spanish and given the fact that they'll bring a lot of tourism and business to Spain I'd see no reason why the Spanish government wouldn't do the same for them as they did for Real (unless you believe that the Spanish Government all support Real of course)

    I'm not picky.
Do idiots like this not realise that it's hard to attack when you don't have the * ball? Did he see the possession stats for instance? The way that Barca keep the ball it's pretty tricky for the opposition - any opposition - to attack. What did he want us to do - run about all over the place like a bunch of headless chickens and get scythed open all the time meaning a possible cricket-type score line? If that happened then he would have probably come out saying that we don't deserve to be there because we got beat so heavily and are defensively inadequate

Given the vast differences in quality between the two sides, the fact that Lennon never set up an ultra defensive formation, the fact that we actually scored first and that we only JUST lost out on getting what would have been a much deserved away draw at the Nou Camp, and the facts that we won away against a very good Spartak side and drew against a very good Benfica side, we are anything but "bores".

If that's what it means to be boring then bring it on!

The guy quit Madrid before a Clasico because he said there was no way Madrid wouldn't lose heavily.

Wouldn't take anything the guy says seriously. Has previous for this.

Officially, Catalunya is indeed a nationality with a distinct language, culture, economy and has autonomy within Spain to run it like any other nation

FC Barcelona does not have any ties to the capital, financial or otherwise and remain a member supported/founded club...Even banks they have outstanding loans from are not Spanish banks but local ones...RM does not have public audits and are member owned but are also funded by the monarchy/state (These figures are never released)

The tourism you speak of is for Catalunya and the money it generates goes towards their government...Taxes, on the other hand is unevenly distributed which lends itself increasingly towards independence of late...For every 1 Euro collected in taxes, 43 cents goes to the Spanish capital and dispersed to the rest of Spain in excess of 20 billion each year

Yet you suggest the club would be bailed out by the capital or that they'd even seek out assistance from them?...No, you have no clue what you are talking about

Knowing the manager as I do, it's incredibly disingenuous from him - he was known for some really negative footy

    Ahhh who cares?

We played the way the vast majority of teams in world football are forced to play against Barcelona.
We were forced to play that way because of the vast difference in quality between the two sides. It happens all the time in football. We played sensible organised football and we were incredibly disciplined and we were almost rewarded for it.

A lot of teams resort to kicking Barcelona. We simply defended - fairly and squarely.

Catalonia is not recognised as a nation by either FIFA or UEFA so as a football club Barcelona represent Spain http://www.uefa.com/teamsandplayers/teams/club=50080/profile/index.html ask people around the world where FC Barcelona come from and the vast majority will say Spain, so first and foremost in a world football sense they represent Spain. Now that may not be the case within Spain itself where the club goes to great lengths to represent Catalonia but on a global scale they're seen as Spanish.

Very few football clubs have financial ties to their governments and most are privately owned or owned by numerous shareholders, I really don't know why you're saying Barca don't either, it's not uncommon.

So then you're telling me that Catalonia does make money for the Spanish government through taxes then to the tune of 20bn a year (tourism does generate a lot of tax by the way) and I'm sure FC Barcelona along with other Catalan businesses contribute their bit to that figure. You're actually making a good case for the Spanish government to have a solid reason to keep a club like Barcelona afloat if the hypothetical situation of them going bust ever happened rather than them not having a reason.

Firstly when I said they could ask the government it was tongue in cheek, I'm sure a sense of pride would make sure that they wouldn't ask. Do I think that they would have a good reason to bail them out if the situation was desperate? Yes, they generate money for the Spanish government through tax so I'm sure if the estimated losses outweighed the sum they would have to pay then it would make perfect financial sense, when push comes to shove governments only care about money and they're pretty liberal about the ways they get it.

You keep saying "you have no clue what you are talking about" yet all I see in you is someone who's letting personal feelings guide your views. You're looking at things from a Barcelona supporters standpoint and I'm guessing Catalan too and nothing else.

that is one concern I have too, while they may only do it to Benfica, we would need to beat Benfica and Spartak to stand a chance.

if we just so happen to beat Barca aswell then praise the lord, it is a massive ask but even a point off Barca would do me, either way though our results against Benfica and Spartak are crucial those are must win games.

Just a * that walks away when the going gets tough. To step down before you play against your main title challengers and then say you had no chance of beating them anyway shows what kind of man he is. Made an * of the Besiktas job and walked away again. No surprise that his outburst made the back page of the papers in this country. A chance to give Celtic bad press will certainly not be missed.
