That's an obscene amount of debt for a football club to accumulate, but hey, if it comes down to it they'll just ask the Spanish government to bail them out like they did for Real Madrid. :87:

If UEFA had any balls they should ban clubs from the Champions League who have ridiculous amounts of debt like that, they should put a £50m maximum debt limit on Champions League participants and as an added bonus it would level out the playing field.

I just hope all this unfounded negative criticism from all angles acts as a spur to the Celtic team when we take on Barca at CP,and we go out and attack and * beat them. That would soon shut all these * up !!
Lets pin all these * media attacks on the dressing room wall Lenny

He goes on about we don't deserve to be there but it's called the champions league not 2nd 3rd and 4th league
And defending is an art don't care what anyone says, defending is as big a part of the game as defending and people schuster need to realise that Barcelona although they have a great philosophy isn't the only way to play football and teams need to implement their tactics to suit the players & opponents as there is no point going toe to toe with them.
Ok it's not pretty to watch but teams are there to try and steal a result that gets them into the next round of the compitition

i am not a fan of leagues for cup competitions...

leagues encourage mediocrity in general.. bring back the knockout for champions and stop playing non champions.

new european cup for domestic cup winners ( both cups which will generate interest and sponsorship) this should be a knockout format also

keep europa league for the best of the rest in a league format since that is how they qualified

is football that hard to run ?

schuster should also take into account the age and experience of the young Celtic team... and if he is that good why does he not set up his own team -- its really easy to do in scotland and there will be a stadium and training facility up for auction real soon

I doubt the Spanish government would ever bail out the club that represents catalonia.
As for the debt considering barcas turnover and assets then it is actually a very manageable level of debt and similar if not less to many of the top teams

Barcelona represent Spain first and foremost and I'm sure the Spanish government wouldn't say no to them after bailing out Real or there would be an uproar.

It's not really "manageable" though, they took out a €155m loan last year for "running costs", when you start taking out loans to pay the wages then alarm bells should start going off, they already had over €400m worth of debt before the latest loan, so they're not managing it very well at all, they're just adding to it. As for you pointing out their assets, while they may very well cover the entire debt (maybe, I'm not sure what their assets are worth in total) but flogging off your assets to pay debt isn't managing it either, it's a last resort after you've failed to manage it. So it's similar to many of the top teams who are also up to their eyeballs in debt, how does that make the situation any better? That's like us saying "ah well the Huns went bust dodging tax so we might as well too"

I think the media are trying to undermine our performance against Barca. Surely this mans views on this would have been more relevant after the CL final than a mere group game. This following on from the retards story about procession in that game just make me smile.

It's the same old * from the Sun, if they can't print anything positive about the Sevconians,or in the old days before they died Rankgers, they will have an article from anycunt that wants to slag off Celtic.

I don't think they would bail them out even if there was an uproar just my opinion.

There shirt sponsor deal alone will wipe out half there debt in 5 years, then there are kit deals, prize money and TV revenue it is very manageable in terms of the money barca generate maybe they haven't managed it great up until now but I think by them having a shirt sponsor deal it shows that there going in the right direction to deal with it. It's nothing like saying that these companies make huge revenue and could pay of the debts in 4-5 years maybe even less

No offense mate but you haven't a clue what you're talking about...You should've buried something like that in your head before putting it out online - it's one sentence but riddled with preposterous assertions

to be fair i think he has a point, it would be borng if teams dd play lke that regularly, however barcelona at the nou camp is an obvious exception, everyone plays like that against them.. because they are forced to. when barca are playing their centre backs on the half way line and passing the ball in our third there is no choice but to defend deep and in numbers.. when we won the bal we played it out off defense and didnt resort to too many nothing long balls.. but what a * saying we dont deserve to be there

Was it not Barcelona players who recognised Samaras as our main attacking threat. Our whole game plan went out the window after he went off.I also thought something was going to be done about financial dopping anyway and the way the champions league is set up to help the top four leagues and the top four clubs in those leagues is a nonsense.Going back to champions only and knock out would give some of the smaller leagues a chance to compete fairly.

I think he just wants teams to completely open up against Barca so they can win every game 10-0, *:smiley-laughing002:

Barca made a loss of almost €10m last year so I'd say the money they're bringing in from kit deals, prize money and the many other revenue streams they have just isn't covering their operating costs, I'm sure I read somewhere the Barca president saying at the time that the Qatar Foundation sponsorship was more necessity rather than choice and you're right in saying that they're heading in the right direction to deal with it but until the debt starts falling considerably rather than rising, it remains unmanageable debt.
